roguewave Posted March 16, 2011 Share #21 Â Posted March 16, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) All three of my R8's are in perfect working order. They are simply the best film SLR camera I have ever used. With the R80, R35 Summiluxes, there's heaven on earth.

Toby Madrigal Posted September 28, 2021 Share #22  Posted September 28, 2021 The one silver lining for a Leica R8/R9 user whose bodies fail and are unrepairable is that Leicaflex trio are still available on the secondhand market to use the R glass. This is provided that the R8/9 buyer bought 3 cam lenses that would fit all bodies.
Technician Posted September 29, 2021 Share #23  Posted September 29, 2021 (edited) My late-production R8 (2001) is displaying blank frame count (00), leaks light and gives blank frames (the shutter fires, but the mirror stays in down position) from time to time. The body definitely feels less sturdy than Nikon F5 and F6 and also is less reliable. The metering is not so sophisticated as in Nikon or Pentax bodies from the 90's too. I wouldn't believe most people's opinions as some photographers (or shall we say "collectors"?) never go past the honeymoon phase with these cameras. Are R8/R9 good cameras? Yes. Are they the best of the best? No, by a mile. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members!
