phancj Posted March 10, 2011 Share #21 Â Posted March 10, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) The fuji will pass like the nex. IMO the fuji sales will not even compare to that of the nex. Here there is an emphasis on interchangeable lens, and though cheaper than the X1 the X100 isnt that cheap really given the multitude of available alternatives. Nay, IMO most will not be looking to buy a fixed lens camera, especially so if the camera is not really that portable either. Retro styling is a big draw maybe but the fixed lens will severely limit sales more than anything else. Â End of the day the X100 is really like the X1, a niche camera. The nex though I am not impressed is deemed a system camera so more takers naturally. Â CJ

jtori Posted March 10, 2011 Share #23 Â Posted March 10, 2011 To my mind, the longer Leica delays release of updated X1 firmware, the higher the expectations within the user community. The company might well have been better served by introducing incremental updates. Â Joe.

I speak empirically with my 3 times dealing with Leica's slooooow repair center. It almost seems like Leica operates in retrospect, so to speak. No vineyards produce perfect wines every season. terrycioni Posted March 10, 2011 Share #26 Â Posted March 10, 2011 I think the same can be said about the other camera OEMs including Nikon and Canon. Singling out Leica for slow repair or firmware updates is just FUD. Â Indeed in the past couple of years I have had faster repair turn around from Leica NJ than from Nikon locally (even with NPS) - and as it happens there is a Nikon repair centre about a 20 minute drive from where I live and NJ is a very very long ways away. Â I have an X1 and frankly I hope Leica takes all the time it needs to get the update right, as far as expectations are concerned - everyone who bought this camera should enjoy it. The X1 is a fine piece of digital gear and presumably met your expectations when you were putting down the hard earned cash to buy it. Â I think the real issue is the expectations around the latest shiny thing in this instance the Fuji X100. I am amazed at how much hype the X100 has attracted and without being in general release - that in and of itself speaks volumes about expectations. Â I enjoy these threads so much. On thing for sure is once the update is released I will enjoy a whole series of threads peeing on Leica for not doing it right.....or whatever it maybe. Â Cheers, Terry

mjh Posted March 11, 2011 Share #28  Posted March 11, 2011 I don't understand it this fuji camera surely is not designed to fit in your pocket. why is leica concerned this much? just release the freakin' firmware already.it's been two whole years and the distance numbers on the screen are still wrong! It’s your reasoning that is wrong, and that’s putting it mildly.  From the fact that demand for the X100 exceeds Fuji’s expectations so they have some difficulty fulfilling orders within the planned timeframe, you conclude that Leica will delay the release of a new firmware for the X1. That’s a non sequitur if I ever saw one, for not only is there no logical relation between Leica’s firmware release schedule and the availability of the Fuji X100 – there isn’t even an indication that Leica does delay the firmware. But you don’t just stop there. From your flawed conclusion you deduce that Leica is concerned about the impending release of the X100, but since the premise is baseless, so is the result of your deduction.  (Now obviously Leica will have taken a close look at the X100 – it would be foolish not to since this camera introduces an innovative viewfinder concept that would also be attractive in a Leica. But the notion that Leica would base decisions about firmware or whatever on another vendor’s release schedule is just nonsense. The firmware for the X1 will be released when it’s ready – and hopefully not a single day earlier.)

This sentence is from the dpreview link i had attached.  Do you really think leica is still working on this new firmware x1 owners have been practically begging for from the minute they recieved their camera in 2009?  clearly,I'm not happy with the new leica. Leica used to have a german ,no bullshit attitude. with the new approvements they made and their new intelligent accessories, that company used to set standards. fuji x100 is a threat to x1 but it's a bigger threat to the future m series because it's more leica than leica itself. take a look at the design, it looks retro because it can't look any other way. now take a look at x1 , it looks retro because it needs to. it has to look like a leica in order to sell . they are selling an extra grip with it for god's sake and sad thing is it works, you can actually hold it with the grip attachment.  x1 firmware is a simple firmware and it's been done and tested months ago, it works. the only thing keeping it away from x1 owners is the 999 attitude. fen hawk Posted March 11, 2011 Share #31 Â Posted March 11, 2011 I just got my X1 a couple weeks ago and I love it. I am just so enjoying taking photos again that I can't tell you how happy I am with this camera, as is, foibles and all. Seriously, I just love the image quality and the whole process of working with the camera to get to a place where the camera can do it's thing. Honestly, firmware updates...for me? Meh. The one problem is, i bought it for my wife and i don't get to play with it enough! lol

I use the X1 sans grip, VF, etc,etc coz thats what I bought it for - portability. I have no problems holding or taking pictures with it.  Like I said many times in this forum, I have taken many what I consider to be good pictures, they are up in the photo forums and LFI, I think leica has a great product and they probably know it too. You can also see evidently that the x100 is a copy of it and thats great coz it will spur leica to make an even better X2.  The name calling has to stop. Juvenile. Think the Mods should do something. mjh Posted March 11, 2011 Share #37  Posted March 11, 2011 I guess you are in no hurry to update your X1 mjh? You do have a direct vested interest in this camera? I don’t own an X1 so in that respect it doesn’t concern me. It is more of a general concern that firmware developers shouldn’t heed users clamouring for an early release but rather take all the time they need. Especially when there are no serious bugs to squash and the objective of the update is just to improve performance – we don’t want any new bugs to be introduced, do we? phancj Posted March 11, 2011 Share #38 Â Posted March 11, 2011 Michael, Â Since you are here I have a question on the sensor of the X1 & x100. You mentioned they are similar, and I am sure you know your stuff. Â The base iso for X1 is 100, that of X100 is 200. What exactly is the difference ( whether the X1's is "boosted") and if any what are the implications in performance? Â Thanks, CJ
