What now for the Leica X1 ?

Perhaps I should have left out the reference to the X100 :(

However as I said this has nothing to do with a camera comparison , more of the marketing of a product which I am saving up to buy. I have read numerous posts , the majority circular and contradictory on the X1 , but still I find this camera to be attractive for my current usage.

I want this product and company to succeed , as I like it's history, however to succeed they need a plan ... we are not privy to their plan, but it would be interesting to see your views on how they can swing "this" around.

So far I have one valid answer "slowly" :) which I appreciate.

The people who like the leica rendering like myself will still buy the X1.

The people who want VF, faster lens, dont mind the bigger bulk, will buy the X100.

Some people who are brand conscious will buy the X1 for its red dot.

I do not personally think the X100 will encroach on the X1 turf, cox the size, IQ, numerous differentiation and different market segments.

The cost of the X1 is the main deterrent to mass market appeal, and from Leica's firm strategy on pricing this hurdle will not be removed. It will always be a niche camera IMO.

So honestly speaking the answer to your question IMO is probably NOTHING. The same people who will end up with the X1 will likely do so still. The relatively mass market X100 will be successful too, sprouting their own line. Leica will move on with a still tiny X2 (at least I hope),...........we'll be all dead and ....armageddon.........whatever......

Since we all do not possess crystal balls that actually work this thread is redundant.

BTW, I am happy since the X100 was introduced my X1 still functions exactly the way it should and I am happy. LAst I checked it is still the most portable in its class. :)

BTW Thanks for the warm welcome ;) ... Jeez

"These similar threads are annoying I know, but I am serious."

DO you know a place I can find an X1 for less than its retail price NEW?

I have a genuine question that needs answered.

3. Start in the middle and work to right

4 .Start in the middle and work to left

5. From end to end -starting from left end

6. From end to end -starting from right end

7. 1. above with left paw holding right end down

8. 1. above with right paw holding left end down

But if you do all of that the bone may well be all gnawed away and you'll have to start on your own hand/paw or whatever.

Keep saving then buy it, if it's what you think you want, what's the issue?

Leica are doing very well - I think they may already have a 'plan'.

What's to 'turn around' ?

Azulmarino, let's try to turn this thread around.

The problem is that you have, inadvertently I fear, stirred a pot that has already been stirred to death here. There are two elements to your original post that are guaranteed to get a negative reaction; firstly the X1/X100 subject has been done to death. Secondly the whole question of Leica "fighting back" against something that in all probability they do not see as a threat is somewhat moot.

Leica have just posted their best figures ever. They are getting on top of supply shortages. They are on an up. Those "inconvenient facts" have shut up most of the "armchair CEOs" and "turnaround specialists" who visualise themselves standing over Leica's "corpse" with a set of electrodes waiting for the storm to reach its' height.

The Zeitgeist is that Leica are doing alright thank you. There is nothing to "turn around" and no "fightback" needed. It has not always been so, and I do not doubt that the vultures will gather again in the future, but for now the sails are set fair.

This is why you have met with some resistance to your approach.

Thanks Bill,

Yes, perhaps it was unfortunate I mentioned brand X in this thread and I am aware that Leica has posted some great financial results, however the next two quarters may be a different thing. Phancj is probably correct when he states there is probably not much market overlap (not his exact words) , but by looking at other threads and other sites , the X1 is taking a bashing due to comparisons with brand X. These comparisons however unfair and which even in the short term may result in the X1 to be demonstrated as the superior camera is still swaying people on the fence on which camera to buy.

Why I am still thinking of buying a Leica ... I have a deluxe 5 and am very happy with it, I would like something portable with even better IQ than I have. Brand X may give me the same IQ , but at this moment in time it doesn't give me the same portability. I have also seen what the camera can do, there are plenty of great images out there.

Does Leica need to turn any preconceptions around about the X1 ? Well even with the Leica X1 forum I am surprised about the bashing this camera gets from owners and non-owners. Should Leica be concerned about what is written on forums ? I am sure they are and will want to continuously improve their products.

But yes Leica are on a roll and I hope it stays that way.

If you care to look carefully it's the same few bashers, and the loudest and less objective ones tend to be non-owners.

Put it bluntly leica must be doing a lot right, M9s and to a certain extent even the X1s are often sold out and needs to be ordered. M lenses lux and crons are almost impossible to see on the shelves. Even the titanium M9 and other limited editions are all snapped up at launch. No, leica doesnt need to worry at this moment.

I seriously wish they have to worry, coz that'll kick their butt to make cooler cameras soon. But alas, i think the guys at solms are having a ball selling more cameras they can make and most probably sunbathing somewhere.

I am dreaming of a tiny full frame X1 with a lux lens.....better a noctilux lens haha....I can dream, right?

i'm dreaming of a new firmware and an apology.

why the apology if you know what to expect from Solms ?

...and in general why the negative sentiment on this (sub) forum even Leica (X1) users bashing their own camera's ? Don't shoot me, but more and more it feels as I am visiting the german language forum full of its well known sarcasm
