JeTexas Posted March 8, 2011 Share #1 Posted March 8, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) New Orleans, Louisiana has become synonymous with Mardi Gras. However, Mardi Gras actually originated in Mobile, Alabama and is celebrated in various ways throughout the Gulf Coast of the United States. Kemah, Texas celebrates every year with a boat parade the Saturday before Fat Tuesday called Yachty Gras. I was excited to test the X1 this year, but it proved a difficult subject to photograph. The entire crowd is pressed up against the railing to watch the boats and catch beads, so unless you are on the water, it's almost impossible to photograph their faces. Then, the boats are both moving forward at 5 - 10 knots and bouncing up and down. If I shot at anything slower than 1/60, it was a blur. Sadly, f2.8 1/60s wasn't really enough, so I ended up with a bunch of grainy, washed-out photos. I think next year I'll revert to my Nikon with 35mm f1.8 -- unless I can finally justify an M9 by then.
