It would help if you get Johnny Mathis to sing it to them. :)

If you know Mathis songs as well as you do the X1 you probably don't know what your talking about... but whats new here?

Personally you seem like the sort of person being into Bieber songs .... (changed your haircut yet?)

Leica will announce an entirely new paradigm for updates! The Leice M10 will occur in your dreams. And enthusiats across the world will enthuse in ecstacy over the new video, gigapixel machine, autofoucus, auto HDR, and so-forth all in virtural reality M10, and then carry it out to powers-of-two upgrades every month until they finally break browsers.

Bite me. Leave the M9 alone. I'll bet half the owners today don't even know what it can do as-is.

Leica sounds like an organization in need of real program management. It would bring certainty to timing, conserve cash (an apparent concern to Leica) and limit scope creep. It would be low- or no-cost way to enable the company's march into the future.

So officially March? nice. At least at that point, for better or worse, we will know what the true potential of this camera will be.

I want some of that True Potential too. But I have a feeling that the actual firmware will be more conservative than that.

I don't know, but you can buy an iPad 2 this afternoon to distract yourself until it's out.

You Bet!! I tried to find more about it on Testfreaks but couldn't find anything about it. May be next time ;)

What the F? There are only a few explanations for the delay, they have made major changes to the software such that a lot of testing is required. Another explanation is few is any resources were devoted to so it languished away. Or another possibility is a serious technical issue has come up. Take your pick. :( I sure hope they were working hard on revamping the code for the contrast focusing. I am almost at the point of selling the camera off and trying to get an X100 at least I will have a comparable camera with more features. :(

You missed a potential reason or two.

a) they don't want fuji copying enhancements

B) they want to copy fuji's enhancements

c) they want to steal thunder from the x100

It's interesting though.. I have read a couple of early user reports on the x100.. and they haven't been all wine and roses. AF difficulties / missed focus / unfamiliarity, soft wide open, etc..

I have only received very lowball offers on my x1, so it's not in a hurry to go anywhere. Hopefully the firmware will arrive sooner than later.

I'm not sure where you are reading your early user reports that state "AF difficulties / missed focus /unfamiliarity, soft wide ope, etc..." Because I have been reading everything I could find on the X100 and have somehow failed to read those posts. Yes, I have read the post is Steve Huff's blog, I have read every post in DPR and numerous other blogs and nothing that negative from any of the people that actually have a released X100 with version 1.0 software in their hands. Can you provide links to these posts?

By the way, as a frequent seller of items on Amazon and eBay, I would say that if you are only getting low ball offers on your X1 it may be an indication of what the market thinks it is worth. Sometimes we tend to think an item should be worth more than buyers are willing to pay for it (I've been guilty of that myself on a few occasions). In the end it is only worth what someone will pay you for it.

By low ball how low? I'm in Vietnam so I might be helped by the fact that new stuff only gets here 2 ways imported with a high tariff or hand-carried by someone coming in from outside. So it could be possible to sell it for a reasonable fraction of what I paid and still buy an X100 in the US and being it home.

Another matter is I have yet to see any comment on the low light focus of X100. The truth is if it is using contrast-based auto-focus, it will have trouble like the GF1 2 ect. Low light = low contrast and hard focus. The X1 is just fine when there is good lighting. I went street shooting today with good lighting and really only missed stuff because I am slow framing and that simple wouldn't be helped by using a view-finder anyway... that filter it has is a pretty slick feature though. though I guess if I wanted I could always buy a filter and keep it in my pocket and use it if I want to go wide open in bright light

John, I haven't gone the ebay route yet, only Craigslist. The offers are regularly $400 less than where the auctions end on ebay. I'm pretty reasonable when it comes to selling tech.

The Steve Huff Review mentioned af inconsistencies iirc... also the spanish site that was translated... as well as the hands on in the camera store cited missed focus.

That seems to be par for course on Craigslist, at least with guitars. Quite a few friends of mine have tried CL and found that the length of time for sale takes a bit longer than they thought it would, because of the wackos and low ballers. Kinda like an online pawn shop I guess :)

h00ligan,

I personally find Craig's list to be bottom feeders not worth spending much time on unless you are selling low end merchandise. The buyers there tend to low ball. If you want top dollar sell it on Amazon.com. Buyers tend to trust Amazon because they enforce rules more stringently and there is significantly less fraud and much better buyer protection. Further, you always know how your pricing compares to other sellers and you can raise or lower your price to compete or change your write up to distinguish why yours warrants a higher price. I have found that high end items sell pretty quickly with very little hassle.

The reviews you are citing just don't rise to the level needed to make any kind of evaluation. Especially, the reviews with beta software. I don't consider those relevant at all. Having owned a GF-1 and a NEX5 I would say anything in the speed range of these two cameras in normal light and low light would be adequate. The EP-1 I owned (I really liked the OOC JPGs) was just too slow. The GXR-A12-50 was also too slow though they have sped it and the EP-1 up some since I owned them so I can't comment on how well they perform now. I would guess from the timings I see on CNET, not enough to make a difference.

I agree. When the x100 arrives I don't mind 'swapping cams' if I think it fits my needs better. But for now I'm not interested in offers for $1200 including lightroom. The x1 is worth that easily to me. Epl1 speed increase was substantial IMO. I updated it for a friend.

The lowest price that an X1 sold for on ebay recently was $1,592.00. That's 79.5% of new price (used items typically sell for 75-80% of new). I'd say that is a fair used price... and that was the lowest I could find in recent activity. The others? $1,700.00, $1,659.00, $1,697.00, $1722.00.
