andybarton Posted March 1, 2011 Share #2 Posted March 1, 2011 The forum charge is for placing the advertisment, in exactly the same way that eBay or your local paper will charge you to place an advertisment. The small fee (much lower than eBay, which is now 10% of sales value, I believe) helps to pay for the forum and keep it a free resource for everyone who chooses not to be a sponsor. You will also be targeting a knowledgable audience of forum members.
wattsy Posted March 1, 2011 Share #3 Posted March 1, 2011 much lower than eBay, which is now 10% of sales value I'm no fan of eBay (especially since they started insisting on offering Paypal as a payment option) but it is worth pointing out you only pay 10% if the goods sell and are worth something like £400 or lower. eBay put a ceiling on the final value fee and you pay a maximum of around £40 no matter how high the auction price goes. That said, it only costs €5 to list something in the classifieds on this forum and, in my experience, it is a very effective way to sell Leica gear. earleygallery Posted March 1, 2011 Share #4 Posted March 1, 2011 My experience. I listed a lens here a couple of times, had interest both times but it ultimately failed to sell (and the price was sensible!). So I'm down €10 but happy to support the forum Ebay will pretty much guarantee you a sale, as long as the reserve or buy it now price is sensible. The listing fees are minimal but if you sell the final value fees and paypal fees (and most people choose paypal now) add up to quite a lot - so do your calculations first! If you find a buyer via the forum, and they are a known member, you are also removing the risk of a buyer scam - so common on ebay, but can be avoided if you are very careful. On balance I would try here first, or ebay if you just want to sell quickly.
