RT_NEY Posted February 25, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted February 25, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just recieved the black X1, and was previously reading post about the X1 screen resolution. I find it OK and not a problem. I have the canon S90 and the screen resolution is really good. But when I pull the pics out of it on my computer they sometimes llok awful. So again when i pull pics from my X1 they look fantastic

phancj Posted February 25, 2011 Share #2 Â Posted February 25, 2011 I know how you feel. Â With the firmware update you can play games on the X1 screen.
pharyngula Posted February 25, 2011 Share #3 Â Posted February 25, 2011 I came to the same conclusion based on comparisons of my S90 and X1 LCDs and output files. The S90 output files are often disappointing relative to what I would have expected when inspecting the shot on the LCD. That said, I do wish the X1 had a screen more in line with pretty much every other "prosumer" camera offered in the past couple of years.
Duke900 Posted February 25, 2011 Share #4 Â Posted February 25, 2011 I used to the screen with 900K pixels on most of my other cameras now. When I saw the spec. of X1 with just 200K I worry too much. Â After using X1 myself, I've found that the screen on X1 is not too bad. The color accuracy is a lot better than many compact cameras. I think I can live with it. Especially when you see the result from X1. Â
JeTexas Posted February 25, 2011 Share #5  Posted February 25, 2011 You guys can add some functionality to the S90 with the CHDK firmware hack. You just put in on the memory card, it's non-destructive. CHDK Wiki  My X1 shots look good on the screen, but I find they're a bit yellow and have to be color-corrected when I get them onto my PC.  I also have trouble telling if they're in focus without zooming on them, but that could be my eyes. h00ligan Posted February 25, 2011 Share #6 Â Posted February 25, 2011 Nah, Leica don't make a camera that allows you to see that critically on the screen. The m9 is even worse.. even when zooming on that camera you can't see focus.. only a general idea.
phancj Posted February 26, 2011 Share #7 Â Posted February 26, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Maybe because perfect focus is assumed in leica cameras??!!

I was using a friend's M9 yesterday and zooming into the chimp screen, I was able to check focus perfectly well. Pure falsehoods such as the one you have posted are not helpful. I had no trouble at all confirming focus when zooming in on the LCD on my M8.
prk60091 Posted February 27, 2011 Share #10 Â Posted February 27, 2011 On my x1 when I choose manual focus I can see focus perfectly. I for one am happy that leica chose to shoot low on the LCD . . . A better screen would have increased the cost of the camera. Â I can hear the complaints now. "the camera costs $2500 look how much money they wasted on the LCD"
mjh Posted February 28, 2011 Share #11 Â Posted February 28, 2011 I don't know why this should be. I had no trouble at all confirming focus when zooming in on the LCD on my M8. And neither is there a problem with the M9.

Compared to other cameras, it's not a falsehood imo. The m9 screen was worse than the x1 screen ime. It was so grainy it was difficult to check focus wide open - to me, compared to other cameras.  Pure statements to the contrary that are based on opinion are not helpful, nor is the tone.  I think it's time for me to leave this forum. I'm sure it will be a good choice all the way around. jsrockit Posted February 28, 2011 Share #14  Posted February 28, 2011 The one thing I found on the X1 is that if you choose the RAW plus low quality jpeg (as many do since you cannot just shoot in RAW on the X1), zooming in while chimping will never look sharp... since the LCD uses the JPEG to allow you to chimp. Low res jpeg equals no chimping for sharpness because you'll just see jagged edges. The M8 and M9 doesn't have this issue.
