So no one is having any problems with V2 of SEP?

Well I am. Win 7 64bit, CS5. Remove version 1, install V2. Start CS5 and then a image. Click on SEP and a new layer is created and then the program, CS5 and SEP, hang. Have to go to Task Manager and force closure of CS5.

And this is with and without SP1 for Win 7.

Haven't tried it on XP yet.

It is up and running in Asia too. It took me 3 hours to get it running. I had to uninstall twice and the third time it worked. I had deleted V1. I run it mainly through LR3 but also in CS4 installed on a MacBook Pro. Now it is running OK I love it - well I loved v! anyway - bit extra bells and whistles are always fun. One thing I spotted was that my external editor seemed to default to PSD and SEP only accepts TIFFs. I created a new module for it and renamed it. The auto install to LR3 didn't work but it did on CS4. Most odd. V1 had originally installed without problem.

Still having hangs of PS CS5 on win 7 64bit. I got it working with CS5 in XP Pro but it is SLOW.

Totally unusable on the Win7 OS, for me. Even opened the .exe file and registered it. Then opened CS5, loaded a PSD, clicked SEP 2 and HANG.

Work in progress!!!!!! I did get the discount and they actually sent me a RMA for the software. But I'm going to keep it and see if a newer release still hangs.

Hmm. installed just fine on my Mac.. but I never imagined that it would leave v1... :D don't upgrades normally remove the previous version... let me rephrase that, how do I un-install the original without fing up v2... :-)

This really is a awesome app, or is that a filter or a application or a program... why don't it run on my iPad anway

If you still have your image file from V 1 you will note that it has an uninstall program. Running that usually works. However, if you noticed my previous post above, that did not work for me! I had to find the files related to V1 in my plugins folder and drag them to the trash to get rid of V1. After doing that V 2 still worked just fine. If you are worried that trashing V 1 files might somehow affect V 2, there is no harm in reinstalling V 2 over the top of your previous V 2 installation. It won't *# up anything. :D

It's weird that NIK installs v. 2 while retaining v.1, as my experience has always been that upgrades remove or integrate with the old version and leave you with only one - the new version. NIK's way is really confusing and there's no explanation that I saw on their site.

I e-mailed NIK about this, but they're very slow in reverting.

V. 2 is unbelievably slower than v. 1. Numerous bugs as well. Clicking the split and dual screen tabs produces B+W images in both. It also takes forever to load a file and to save it.

Overall, I'm very underwhelmed with the quality of the upgrade. Seems like they released a beta version instead of working the bugs out first.

will be keeping v.1 until v.2 get fixed. am somewhat surprised that they released it with these problems after all it isn't a beta version

Well I'm not having any problems with V2 on XP Pro, CS5 32bit. But on my Win 7 64bit install V2 just hangs CS5 64bit with 100% CPU. I'm tempted to install the 32bit version of CS5 under Win 7 64bit and see if V2 runs on that.

I actually got a RMA from NIK for a unrelated reason. But I'm going to keep it and see if they clear this problem up.

Downloaded it yesterday and installed on Win 7 x64. No issues whatsoever when calling the plug-in from either CS5 or LR3. It's actually much faster on my machine than v1. And having both v1 and v2 installed didn't appear to cause any problems. However, I ended up removing v1, as v2 seems to be superior on all counts.

There must be problems with particular machine configurations - the worst nightmare from a developer's perspective... Nik forums seem to hint that graphic cards may affect performance - FWIW, there are suggestion that disabling the use of GPU in the software settings may help in some cases.

spoke to very helpful guy a t nik software in germany. am now using the faster graphics card in my mac which speeds thing up as to the preview you need to go into the history box and pull the orange slider up to 'original image'

this will then solve the problem. in fact it is very useful as you can place the slider wherever you want and then preview a previous setting

Installed quickly and perfectly on my Mac. It is configured as a plug-in from Aperture 3. It seems to be much faster but I had no complaints with speed anyway. The detail improvements are good and so I am more than satisfied with the product. My only concern is that in Europe we pay 99 Euro for the upgrade (i.e. $135) versus the quote of $84 buying from the US with the coupon. It is about time this form of differential marketing disappeared - I can see little or no advantage in having a support centre in Germany, especially when the guy at Photokina would not let me try HDR for myself but insisted he had to give the dem and that he was totally bored having to do this.

Regarding the slow running (and other problems) of Efex 2 on some machines Nik have replied to me saying they know they are having a problem with ATI graphics cards, of which mine is one. Apparently the Catalyst Control Centre tries to overide GPU processing. But I have tried my Efex 2 with GPU turned on and off and it doesn't seem to make much difference. No news yet from them on fixes.

I switched the GPU off on Nik's advice. Marginally better but not dramatically.

Thanks, you lot. Now I bought it also :D No problems although I must say the site is a bit of a cripple, especially if your in Europe. And the code NIKPSS doesn't apply when your not in the US.

some nice videos on demand (features/tutorials) from the US site: http://www.niksoftware.com/learnmore/usa/index.php/webinars/archives/selective-editing-with-u-point-in-silver-efex-pro-2/0/0/0/0/0

I have to turn on the faster graphics card in my 17"macbook pro otherwise it hiccups along like an old steam engine. this is fine as long as its plugged into the power lead or it eats up the battery pretty quickly!!

Nik suggested turning the GPU off but that in fact made it worse

Just noticed the following notice in my upgrade email from Nik:

"For Viveza 2 owners, it is critical that the free new update to Viveza 2.004 be downloaded and installed prior to installation of Silver Efex 2. This update will resolve potential conflicts that could occur with the installation and activation of Silver Efex Pro 2."
