Keith (M) Posted March 6, 2011 Share #41 Posted March 6, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Regarding the slow running (and other problems) of Efex 2 on some machines Nik have replied to me saying they know they are having a problem with ATI graphics cards, of which mine is one. Apparently the Catalyst Control Centre tries to overide GPU processing. But I have tried my Efex 2 with GPU turned on and off and it doesn't seem to make much difference. No news yet from them on fixes. Steve Hmm, that is not good news. I was seriously considering upgrading but as I have an ATI Radion HD4300/4500 Series card (running under Vista 64 bit) I might just wait a while longer... On the same hardware running XP Pro SP3 it works but is slow. This is with a NVidia 7900GTS video card.
250swb Posted March 9, 2011 Share #43 Posted March 9, 2011 I had a reply from Nik about ATI cards and this was their response "Please look in the Catalist Control Center, the option is located in the 3D section under "Anisotropic Filtering" in the CCC. The checkbox should be turned on.....it has been the cause of some issues presently. " Which seems odd to me since as far as I can work out the checkbox (which says 'use application settings') is ticked by default. Anyway mine was ticked so the problem of Efex running slowly lays somewhere else. Steve
AlanJW Posted March 10, 2011 Share #44 Posted March 10, 2011 I was apprehensive about SE2 after reading the reports of sluggishness. However, it installed perfectly and runs perfectly (and is very fast) on my two Macs -- a 2010 iMac and a several years old Mac Pro. In each case, quite by accident I had installed the Viveza 2 update first.
viramati Posted March 15, 2011 Share #45 Posted March 15, 2011 Spoke to Nik software in Germany and have sent them a whole email showing my workflow. They are aware of the problem I brought up about the image seeming to have more contrast when saving back to LR3 and say it is actually a problem with sharpening and that they are working on it. Meanwhile I have gone back to version 1 for critical work
250swb Posted March 19, 2011 Share #46 Posted March 19, 2011 I got an email from them yesterday David which said they are working on it as a priority. I get the impression people are seeing variations of the same problem perhaps depending screen size, percentage of full screen view, or maybe even graphics card? I have been using #2 but I'm glad I didn't un-install #1! Steve
57andrew Posted March 19, 2011 Share #47 Posted March 19, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Mine is now working ok except for the keyword gremlin with LR3. Just means doing keyword entering after processing. Small workaround.

No, stranger than that. When you go to the checkout, among the required fields is your address. New Zealand is not listed in the drop-down of countries ... antistatic Posted March 26, 2011 Share #51 Posted March 26, 2011 I downloaded SEP2 last week here in Australia. Works perfectly as an Aperture2 plug-in on my 2008 iMac. The extra features are worth it.

The extra features are worth it. Hi David, What site did you use? I went to niksoftware.co.nz (as recommended by Nik Software), which brought up a site with only the old version 1 of Silver Efex Pro and Viveza. When I click through to the purchase page, it goes to crkennedy.com.au/niknz with no option to upgrade to the Pro 2 version. Still unable to download from the international site. Have gone back to Nik Software. Cheers John
antistatic Posted March 30, 2011 Share #53 Posted March 30, 2011 I downloaded it from the international site. It was the upgrade from efex1. That might have made a difference.
ramosa Posted April 2, 2011 Share #54 Posted April 2, 2011 Sep 2 is very good. I have not noticed any serious glitches, nor slowness in processing. But that, of course, relates to how much RAM you have, etc.
