S2 - SF 58 Flash and the M9

In actual practice just setting the off-camera speed-light to A and firing it with any radio control device works just as well. If shooting outdoors in bright sun where you want HSS, the actual ability of a speed-light to become a key light is next to zero. Most speed-lights top out at 70 or 80 w/s and HSS diminishes that considerably.

Did you ever try this out with PocketWizzards? Does the A-mode work then for every radio-controlled unit separately?

I actually use the PW with Nikon and the S2, but in manual model only (light metering with a seconic 758 DR), but there are situations where the A-mode would be helpfull (TTL would be a dream, of course).

I agree with Marc's assessment of Metz, both the product and the company. Their other main product line is flat screen TV's which hints at a loss of focus.

Given that the company consists of two divisions, one building televisions and radio equipment since 1938 and electronics for Carl Zeiss, the other flashes in conjunction with Agfa and Braun since the 1952, I find this remark rather difficult to place...

Cannot find an answer in this thread. Does anyone have the Metz 58 AF2 working on the M9 especially in TTL mode ?

B&H guys says that works great (!) but Metz says "nope".

As the SF58 is manufactured by Metz, who is right ? Does Metz "protects" Leica for the SF58 sales or is it really not working ? Appreciate your answer. Phil

The Metz 58.2 is available only for Nikon and Canon, but not for Leica (will maybe come soon). So a "simbple" non-Leica Metzt 58 will work in M and A-mode, but not in TTL-mode nor in sync.mode. Unfortunately.

But look out, I have recently seen some reduced offers for the Leica SF58, maybe a sign that SF58.2 will be available soon :)

Always welcome, but biggest issue in scenario from subject thread is in M9, not SF-58.

I am talking about lack of HSS support by M9 itself...

PS: in fact - I would be more happy to see Leica flash of FL-36 size, allowing for bouncing, than next big SF-58...
