No. The shade should be permanently attached to the lens, and that shade is covered by its plastic flat slip-on cover. You should have both. There is no (dedicated) cover that screws on the lens directly.

For filters (M9 use) get the 67mm adapter.

Sander, I did not get that part attached to the shade when I bought the lens. I received the shade attached ti the lens but, no cover, is there a part number for that cover? I want to thank you for all your helpful information concerning this. :)

@Stanjan, the part number of the cover for the shade is 14212. The material seems to be from soft plastics and might easily be lost.

Today I received the Tri-Elmar 16-18-21mm boxed it appears to be in good condition for a used model however, there doesn't appear to be a front lens cover. My question therefor is does Leica provide a front lens cover when you buy this lens brand new in the box?:)

Yes, you do. One can also buy the lens cover for $26.95.

Stanjan! I really hope you like this lens as much as I do: it is my favourite. Enjoy!

My brand new one came with a lens hood cap #14212, not a lens cap for use without hood though. But you can always get a lens cap, but then where do you put the hood which is not very deep. Hope you got the hood #12458 with it.

If you order one, I would order two because you'll need it. I've already lost one, and several times backtracked and found it laying on the ground. It is just not designed to stay on very well.

Fortunately, most the time it falls off when removing the camera from the bag- I guess a value added feature :D

PS- also not a great idea to take off the hood, since the lens protrudes past the end of the housing, leaving it very vulnerable.

Algrove, yes I received the hood but, not the hood cover, whats disturbing me is that the seller had to known there was no lens (hood cover) for the lens when he shipped it to me. Thanks for your input. :)
