Sold my X1 with Leica v/f, extra Leica battery and Leica leather case yesterday (4 March) to a local buyer for US$1800.00. (New this kit cost me US$2560 one year ago.)

Reasons: too slow to do almost everything with the camera (focus, write speed, etc.). Also I didn't like the macro focus of 30 centimeters. Plus, Leica's extreme sloth in releasing new firmware didn't set my heart all a-flutter.

I'm going to lay in the weeds for awhile and see how the Fuji X100 pans out. It just can't be any slower than the X1. If it still looks good in two months, that'll be my next camera. Sorry Solms.

(I very much miss my M7 but then there's still the nagging problem of quality color film processing availability.)

• only f2.8

• Elmarit lens, no Summicron or Summilux

...

Did i forget something?

By that logic yeah. The names just refer to f stops so you also forgot to mention:

•half the entrance pupil size of f/2.0

•isn't as fast as the fuji f/2.0 lens

•passes the same light to the sensor as a 70mm f/2.0 on a full frame camera

•is a slow lens

•decreases light to the sensor by a factor of f/1 over (√2)∧3

•doesn't go to f/2.0

•isn't as fast as the GF1 pancake lens

•isn't a noctilux

Am I forgetting anything? :p

I have been thinking of getting a X1. However, there seems to be a awful amount of barely used one`s on eBay and other sites!

So I ask why are people selling so soon after purchase:cool:??

Why ask what others do? Reviews are available, specs are available, opinions are available (far too many). If you know what you want, think (think twice at least) and buy (or don't).

I bought mine for 2/3 of the price at ebay. It came in the box, without any marks and obviously rarely used. An absolutely great deal! Lightroom included (this is important!).

The original price of the X1 hurts a bit, 2/3 is still a lot but you don't feel ripped off any more. Instead I got a first class camera for a perfectly good price. Don't ask, don't hesitate. Buy, or others will do it for you.

Currently, the X1 seem to be in short supply because of Fukushima. Because of this and because the firmware update enhances the value of the X1 a lot, I expect prices will rise.

Had some fun reading this thread. Still - I find it astonishing that such heated discussions happen so long after the camera is on the market. I understand it in the case of X100,but the X1 ... ? Seems like the camera companies are yet to bring us that mirror-less magic bullet.

Terence, there are people around with more money than discernment about what they really want to own. In an age of widespread automation, some people have forgotten how to think about a manual operation. Strange, but true!

I am a Leica user since 1968 , yes that's right 1968,and yet I really struggled to like the X1 I bought in January but then it clicked , so to speak .

So my advice to all those who are struggling with their X1s is , before you rush off to eBay , persist . I did and it is a great camera but also an enigma . I have posted my story and some photos on

Its interesting to read all the dislikes about this camera. In the end I think the price coupled with the fact it lacked so much of what other cameras in it's class did have is what offends people. What I have yet to hear anyone say is that it takes bad pictures because, well, it doesn't. Contrary it takes amazing pictures all through it's ISO range. I didn't buy this camera to take hd video, but to have a great photographic tool in a small body. It takes a bit of a learning curve but I think I'm a better photographer for it. If that is the goal of a perspective buyer then I think they will be as grateful for the camera as I am. I'm sure the x100 will be amazing as well and there's nothing wrong with that, the more analog in the digital world, the better.

shinglj,

thank you for the link to your blog. Fun to read.

This especially made my day:

"Why design a car where disconnecting the battery results in memory loss of driveablity parameters from one of the electronic control units ? "

Enjoy your Porsche and your Leica. Indeed, where I live, the old 70s Porsche Models are en vogue again. For a reason, I suppose.

What was the "so much" that it lacked?

It's not faster than the S90 I used...
