Hi :D I have often fancied buying a motor drive to go on my M6ttl. I have looked at many threads but I am still undecided if I should. My camera is 14-15 years old and never been a problem though I only shoot about 6-12 films a year at most.

(1)Would a motor drive increase wear/ cause problems on my camera.

(2)Should I have it serviced before fitting a motor drive.

(3) What is the purpose of 1.5 frames on the drive.

I guess I would only use the drive occasionally so its a lot of money if I then cause camera problems by using it.

Help would be appreciated.

The M-Motor will not harm your M6. It does not operate like many other motors that trigger the shutter and the release stays down until you release it. Instead, you press the shutter, the shutter fires and the motor pushes the release back up against your finger. I got used to it quickly. Just do not press the shutter and try to hold it down to defeat the rebound. I'm not sure, but it seems to be an opportunity to break something.

The 1.5 frames-per-second is considered the quiet mode, and the other 3-frame is not-so-quiet. I'd personally not use the I (1.5) mode with slow shutter speeds. 1/125th is okay. Faster is better.

It is quiet, compact and light and the grip is very accomodating. Highly recommeded.

I use one on the M6. Have for about a year now. it give me the same grip as I have on the M8 which I've gotten dependent on. It adds a little weight, but I don't mind. I kept loosing shots as I hadn't wound the shutter, this and the improved handling was enough for me to get one. It should be fairly easy to find one 2nd hand at a reasonable price.

A word of advise: When it is attached and the camera is loaded, remember to switch it off before stowing the camera in your bag to avoid a film worth of 'inside of the bags shots'. I've also made a habit of setting the M6s shutter dial to 'B' to save batteries.

Cheers,

Carl

Since you shoot very little, going with the K.I.S.S. principle, you don't need the Motor-M as it will complicate you shooting. It will not however wear your M6TTL, you don't need to service your M6 before using and either Mode I or Mode II really sound about the same but I only use Mode I and rarely Mode II. You will also have to assure that the battery chamber does not suffer corrosion from sitting around with batteries installed.

I have two Motor M's installed on my M7's and almost always use them. Once in a while I will use a Leicavit on and M7 or M6 bit vastly prefer a Motor M.

Unless you are shooting moving sequences, I don't think you need one.-Dick
