Advertisement Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Hi phancj, Take a look here If the lenses of the X1 aren't produced in Germany, what's MADE in GERMANY?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
h00ligan Posted February 22, 2011 Share #42 Posted February 22, 2011 read up on EU law and then we can talk about it some more. rather than spouting hypothetical statements You know, you've been humoured, people have discussed it with you, many have tried to explain a counter pov. Clearly you believe what you believe.. and now you're responding like that even though you've been afforded courtesy. The thread's been answered, get over it. If you don't like it, take it up with the eu, or an attorney, or whatever makes you feel better. Feels like the return of Emma tbh.

phancj Posted February 22, 2011 Share #44 Posted February 22, 2011 Edward, The AG of the EU Commission is in the house... Interpol will tear apart leica's solm facility, all hell breaks loose! you've been warned!
h00ligan Posted February 22, 2011 Share #45 Posted February 22, 2011 Clearly you know very little about European Law. Need I say more? Now I know this is 'Emma'. Same assertive semi literate writing with attempts at authoritative tone. How could one construe any semblance of an idea about what I do or do not know about EU law based on what I said.. unless it was a failure to quote or slow typing.. another 'Emma' trademark. CJ, you better watch your tone!
timd. Posted February 22, 2011 Share #46 Posted February 22, 2011 Clearly you know very little about European Law. Need I say more? Tell us what we should know. hunz Posted February 22, 2011 Share #48 Posted February 22, 2011 As tails go between their legs they scurry from the scene. Why don't you meet me here in London at our offices and I can elucidate more about what is covered within EU law regarding correct origin labeling requirements. FYI, Interestingly the Leica D-Lux 4 is labelled: Made in Japan. LEICA CAMERA GERMANY
h00ligan Posted February 22, 2011 Share #49 Posted February 22, 2011 Sure thing, PM me your address, I'll be there shortly to see my family and pay a visit. I'd love an education from you about EU law.. I can in turn give you lessons on manners and the written language.
phancj Posted February 22, 2011 Share #50 Posted February 22, 2011 My last attempt at a polite answer: My X1 says "Made in Germany" at the baseplate. I am certain leica being a reputable company with long historical standing and prestige it will definitely not risk jeopardizing its position or run afoul of the law just to make a few bucks from one of the less expensive models. And if I am wrong then they deserve to be punished for this misdeed but personally I think the X1 is a cool camera and takes great pictures so I am okay and pragmatic with these things... But you taunt of "meet me...." sounds like 19th century gangland here in Asia and I do take a front to that, sounds like a challenge, juvenile at best. You can do better than that, take leica to court, punish them for their misrepresentation, be a fighter for the free world. Otherwise, zip it and move along. The x100 launch is imminent. Good riddance.

stunsworth Posted February 22, 2011 Share #56 Posted February 22, 2011 Do you would like to buy an original Rolex watch, made in Japan, under the quality control of the company? It wouldn't bother me one bit.
SJP Posted February 22, 2011 Share #57 Posted February 22, 2011 Under copyright law in the United States and other signatories of the Berne Convention, "country of origin" is defined in an inclusive way to ensure the protection of intellectual rights of writers and creators.A X1 camera is made in the mind of the (German) designers & engineers, where you buy, machine, file, solder or grind the parts is largely immaterial so long as they comply with the design tolerances and requirements. Final QC packaging and shipping along with the German warranty is the requirement for "made in Germany". The ipod or Mac is a "made in the USA" product, despite being produced/assembled in China or elsewhere. Mind over matter, basically.
andybarton Posted February 22, 2011 Share #58 Posted February 22, 2011 Ok. That's enough threats, real or imagined, thanks.
Danielsan Posted February 22, 2011 Share #59 Posted February 22, 2011 Car Companys like Mercedes or BMW use parts from all over the world for their cars, the important thing is that Leica or Mercedes make sure how those parts are designed and what materials are used etc..and that everything is designed well, producing great IQ.. that everything last long.. its not important where the factory is, the design and brainstorm for each product is the important thing and the machines used to build and calibrate them. hunz Posted February 22, 2011 Share #60 Posted February 22, 2011 We were having a conversation. No threats, physical or otherwise was ever implied or intended. Can't two people organise to meet to discuss? __ "The x100 launch is imminent. Good riddance." __ Seems some people get sensitive over their equipment. My posts were never intended to offend. Anyway, EU law is highly complex. Lets leave it at that. Peace.
