I'd also love to know where I can buy film in a pinch, but I'm mostly just bringing a ton of film. Building up my supply ahead of the trip, actually, for both my M3 and my Mamiya C3. Given the length of my stay there, I may process in the hotel bathroom too. Undecided yet. I am now thinking I may leave my Mamiya 7 behind and just shoot with the M6. I just got back from Cuba and had no problems getting a hand inspection on 60 rolls of film going in and coming back. Your last trip yielded some really great images, looking forward to see some from this trip! By the time I hit Budapest I will have cleared three airports, so I was thinking it was safer to buy there. I have found a supply of Ilford there, but not Kodak. Did you get a hand inspection in Montreal on the way out? My last trip through Paris, I was refused a hand inspection. London granted it, Barcelona refused, and I lost a few rolls as a result. This trip was to Habana as I wanted to explore the northern part of the island and as well gather more material for the book. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with from Budapest. Your Haiti work was top drawer. I have never had an issue with hand inspection in Montreal with either 35mm or 120. Sheet film is another issue altogether. Even a manufacturers sealed box must go through X-Ray. This irritates me to no end, because I even provide them with the spec sheets claiming sheet film is not to be x-rayed. Their response is always "then we need to open the box". My response is, "well then you will expose the film". They usually reply "then it needs to go through x-ray". I have thought about taking my changing tent and having them open the boxes in there, but then I risk them getting fingerprints all over the emulsion, or worse, not re-sealing the packaging correctly. The price of film is only pennies per roll more there than here, Since I am not going direct, I will buy there. And process in the hotel bathroom before I leave.
