Visoflex lenses on R bodies

Hello all,

I'm getting somewhat confused on how Visoflex lenses can be used on a R body:

- Presumably, 1, 2 or 3 cams or 3rd cam only should not matter. Leicaflex, Leicaflex SL ( I or II ) or Leica R should not matter. Right? or wrong?

- What adapter stands in between the Visoflex lens and the R body?

- What about focusing helicoid for M/SM lens heads?

- Whatever else I did not think of...

Thank you all.

Guy

Hello Guy,

there is an adapter 14127 to use Visoflex lenses on a Leicaflex or R-body. It has a diaphragm simulator. I still have one for sale (another day) in the Classifieds of this forum. Lenses should be used with a focusing mount, which then couples with the adapter.

Guy,

The diaphragm simulator only worked on the original Leicaflex and the only function it had was to 'tell the camera' which f-stop was set on the lens. The more common adapter is 14167, which does not have the diaphragm simulator as it was not needed anyway.

A 560mm lens with f:9.6 maximum aperture..... Now let's see - to get decent sharpness with the Extender, one has to close down by about 2 f-stops, to about f:22. Tried the same combination myself and abandoned it soon thereafter....

Impressive outfit though....

Guy,

Another thought - there is/was a chart, which listed all lens/adapter combinations possible with the Visoflex. It includes information about adapters that are needed, magnification ratios, closest focusing distances etc.

Once you have that information, all you have to do is to add the 14127 or 14167 adapter and the function will be the same on the R camera, as it would be on the VIsoflex. If you do not have the chart, send me a PM with your email address and I can email it to you.

Best,

Jan

Already posted with the one of the kit

"Mine is on the last 20 s/n of the 1977 batch.

I just make some trials one hour ago using the R8/DMR/adapter/4.8/280 V3 combo

and one + the Extender R x2 from my window to 45 m away to one of the mimosa tree. ISO 100 f8 a little wind disturbing.

No cropping."

Yes, J.C.,

I can tell from the focusing mount and f-stop rings that this is one of the latest ones.... I had one with the same optical formula but 'scalloped' focusing ring. Nice lens, but heavy.

Sharp results - tripod monted of course?

Best,

Jan
