Advertisement Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Hi k-hawinkler, Take a look here Bandelier. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pauledell Posted February 12, 2011 Share #2 Posted February 12, 2011 K-H, An excellent picture with the extreme crop holding up extraordinarily well. I take it that these are the ruins are from centuries past. I just looked it up on Wikipedia to find these to be the former homes of the Pueblo Indians. Yup Bandelier National Monument - History & Culture (U.S. National Park Service). The ancestors of the pueblo people along the Rio Grande (Cochiti, San Felipe, San Ildefonso, Santa Clara, Santo Domingo) built these structures from 1150 - 1550 CE. More details Prehistory of El Rito de los Frijoles, Bandelier National Monument, Prehistory of El Rito de los Frijoles, Bandelier National Monument (Tyuonyi - The Big Community House) and Bandelier National Monument - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. To give you a better idea of the scale of the Tyuonyi (Talus Houses), here is an image I shot last April with a Nikon D3 and Leitz 90mm f/2 Summicron from the Fry trail, leading up the canyon wall to the right in my first image. stuny Posted February 12, 2011 Share #4 Posted February 12, 2011 K-H - A lovely set, but I think they could all profit from a bit of incxreased shadow slider (example below. I assume there is wheelchair access to where the people are.

I assume there is wheelchair access to where the people are. Hi Stuart, Many thanks. Most of Bandelier is hiking country. It gets pretty rugged though. However, down in the canyon near the visitor center is the paved 1.2 mile main loop trail, suitable for wheelchairs. The trail also gives access to ladders one has to climb to get to cave like dwellings. At the far end of the loop is the Alcove House, reachable with a 140 foot ascent on 4 wooden ladders and many stone stairs. This is the first ladder, three more like it to follow. Following are the darkened images. I guess I better go easy on the "Fill Light" button. Though, depending on at what angle I look at the images on my Mac laptop, there is quite a bit of variation in brightness. What is a good way to calibrate the screen? Thanks again. Best, K-H.
