Advertisement Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Hi santila, Take a look here MD R8 Battery Replacement. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
gvaliquette Posted January 25, 2007 Share #2 Posted January 25, 2007 I presume that the 14423 is the battery for the DMR. Do you mean open the battery pack, replace the NiMH cells and reseal the pack??? If so, it does not sound like something that ou should even consider! santila Posted January 25, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted January 25, 2007 And why not? It is not a brain surgery. There are 8ea. double AA size battery, HHR 150AAB01x8, 9.6V/1500mAh. All one needs to do unsolder the pack and resolder the new pack. I think these batteries made by Panasonic for the Leica R8-9 MD.

gvaliquette Posted January 25, 2007 Share #5 Posted January 25, 2007 Motor drive or DMR? I thought that the Motor drive batteries were NiCd. Guy
santila Posted January 25, 2007 Author Share #6 Posted January 25, 2007 "This compact unit encloses 8 built-in high-power NiMH rechargeable cells" (ref.B&H) It is a shame that one needs to replace the whole unit #14423 for a cluster of batteries that cost around $30.- I found a way that It Can Be Done. Below is the reply from Leica, USA: "Good Evening, You are absolutely correct, I look at the wrong line... The 14423 is sold as a complete unit Cost $205.00... It can be ordered from any Leica dealer... We do not sell the batteries seperately... Batteries Plus sells numerous types od Leica batteries... I'll do my best to learn the system... Thanks... santila Posted January 26, 2007 Author Share #8 Posted January 26, 2007 bruno, what is the question? santilaatmethownet.com
brunom Posted February 10, 2007 Share #9 Posted February 10, 2007 Sandor It wasn't a question that I was indicating , but my confusion at not being able to follow or understand what the Leica rep was really saying as although you say that, that was his reply, it seems to be edited down and didn't make too much sense to me. SoFi-Chaser Posted February 15, 2007 Share #10 Posted February 15, 2007 Hello, I've been to Solms end of last year to get my Motor-Drive R8 fixed. Since there are NiMh with 3000mAh available today, I asked the technicians if I could change the cells. I'm going to Ireland for two weeks in May, and I simply didn't want to spend the money for a second Power-Pack, when I can double the capacity for one fifth of the price. (If you look at the hardware of such a battery-pack, they must use gold instead of copper for the contacts ) The guys answered, that in principle one could change the cells. But the electronics in the Power-Packs would have to be changed as well. Charging and power-indication (3LED) won't work correctly otherwise. However electronics in the R8-body will most propably get damaged as well (ok, I think they must say this). But finally I've given up my plans about a self made power-pack. In germany the name "Ansmann" is written on the charging-unit, which is experienced to be one of the best, you can get. I'm sure Ansmann adjusted it to the capacity of the cells as well. So I follow the golden rule of any admin: never touch a running system Regards Torsten
