Advertisement Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Hi geesbert, Take a look here barn door lens hood. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
luigi bertolotti Posted February 5, 2011 Share #2 Â Posted February 5, 2011 The SOOFM fits by sure the 2nd Summicron 50 , but maybe not the 3rd (having not a Summicron 3rd, can't verify, but the front mount is different); SOOFM was the last of the barn door hoods, so I fear there isn't a solution, apart some DIY adapting... giordano Posted February 5, 2011 Share #3 Â Posted February 5, 2011 The folding "barn door" hoods were made for the screw-mount Summitar and 50mm Summicron. They'll fit any 50mm Summicron that doesn't have a built-in hood. The angles and the cut-outs in the back of the hood were designed to minimise viewfinder intrusion on screw-mount bodies so aren't optimal for use on an M, but I find it quite usable. Â There may possibly be complications if you have a filter on the lens. I'm pretty sure the later barn doors - the ones marked "Summicron" will fit over a Leitz/Leica E39 filter all right, but I'm not certain that the older ones - marked "Summitar" only - will do so. Â I find I can also use my barn door hood on a 35mm Summicron pre-asph on the M8 with lots of shading and no vignetting.
tobey bilek Posted February 6, 2011 Share #4 Â Posted February 6, 2011 Summitars had a V groove to hold the shade. I imagine the tabs were made to fit the V. Â I imagine it would also fit the Summicrons with flat bottom groove, bit would be sloppy. So try before you buy. Â A wild guess is Summitar/Summicron marked are made for a flat bottom groove. giordano Posted February 7, 2011 Share #6 Â Posted February 7, 2011 Maybe I'm getting confused with my Summicron versions. I thought that all except the latest had a groove for 12585 and similar hoods.

jc_braconi Posted February 7, 2011 Share #8  Posted February 7, 2011 Was curious to know... so I tried them the Summitar obviously do not fit the two versions Summicron and Summitar u.Summicron fit, BUT do not clamp safely, by this I mean that, if you move it, it comes out. So I will not recommend to use it without a special care. The groove on V.3 lens head is the double in width than of the V.2. may be this is the cause of the floppy clamp. Welcome, dear visitor! geesbert Posted February 8, 2011 Author Share #9 Â Posted February 8, 2011 The Ebay Seller told me that he had accidentally sold the hood twice and and that he would give me a summitar version instead. I think I will decline....
