Marc,

Yours is the first case I've seen where an S2 isn't just recognized via plug n' play with either a Mac or PC in LR 3.3.

Do other USB devices work on your tower? Perhaps there is a USB driver issue.

David

Seems like I always get to be the first for stuff David ... LOL!

It's not the camera or USB cord that I can tell ... it's my computer ... since it works fine on my laptop and my wife's Mac Air.

I already tried updating the USB drivers. It's probably some jinky preference or something. I ran the utility, but probably need to use the start up disk and repair them there. I'll try that tomorrow.

Not all the USB ports on the Mac have the same power. Try another port.

Thanks. Yep, tried every one of them including the ones on the back which tend to be better. Unplugged everything and tried them all. No issues with any other USB device, printers, hard-drives, iPhone, scanner, etc.

Thanks again everyone.

So, today I started up from the install disk and ran the permissions utility ... also ran Tech-Tools.

Still didn't work.

Created a new user account as suggested, downloaded LR 3.2 from the Leica site ... and it worked.

Logged out, and logged back into my main account, and it didn't work. (However, LR 3.3 had been replaced with LR 3.2).

Proving that it is some conflict in preferences or something else I can't figure out ... not a USB port issue, not a camera or tether cord issue.

I suppose for the few times I may shoot the S2 tethered to this computer I can just log on to the user account ... as long as I remember to save the session to a hard drive before logging back out ... LOL!

Any further ideas most welcome.

I'm pretty sure it's a Mac thing. I had the same trouble you had (during a demonstration!) with a brand new 15" MBP but the S2 worked just fine tethered with my older 13" MB and, interestingly, flawlessly on a PC running W7/64. Go figure.

I don't have the answer though, if you nail one down let us know...

OK ... here goes

Assuming that you installed it for your user only

Go to Macintosh HD and open the folder "Users"

Then open your own user folder (in my case edwinconstable)

Now we are going to nuke the system ....

Open the folder "Library"

Open the folder "Preferences"

Delet the followinng files

com.adobe.Lightroom2.LSSharedFileList.plist

com.adobe.Lightroom2.plist

com.adobe.Lightroom3.LSSharedFileList.plist

com.adobe.Lightroom3.plist

com.adobe.Lightroom3Beta.LSSharedFileList.plist

com.adobe.Lightroom3Beta.plist

and any other files of the type

com.adobe.LightroomX .....plist

Your exact list may not be the same as mine ... depends on installation history

Restart

If this doesn't work we need to work in the application support area

I hope not though

Thanks Ed. Did it, no luck.

Still works perfectly in the second account. I have a ton of 3rd party plug-ins and preferences in my main account LR software so I'm reluctant to uninstall LR and reinstall ...

It may be that it'll just be fine using the second account when occasionally using the S2 tethered in studio where this computer is located.

It'd be nice, but not essential.

Marc,

If that is the case perhaps you should set up "Fast User Switching" and make a

shared folder....

you log in to your secondary account to tether, save the files to the shared folder and when you switch to your normal login you can point LR3.3 to the shared folder as a watched folder to capture the files.

I assume that at some point it will behove you to do the requisite reload so that you can work this out but this may buy you some time.

Regards,

Bob
