geaibleu Posted February 3, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted February 3, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is it a way to conserve warmth by not moving, or is it just plain laziness?
Advertisement Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Hi geaibleu, Take a look here Is it bird stoicism?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
allamande Posted February 3, 2011 Share #2 Â Posted February 3, 2011 Why should they move unless they absolutely have to? They are smarter than we think. The fluffed up feathers are keeping them warm here. Â BTW, nice shot. Â Ece
pauledell Posted February 3, 2011 Share #3 Â Posted February 3, 2011 Geaibleu, Â A nice shot. I take it you were using a long focus lens with the shallow dof. Fine composition, colors and sharpness. Â Paul
stuny Posted February 3, 2011 Share #4 Â Posted February 3, 2011 Also, by not moving there is a minute layer of body-heated air against the outer feathers, which is lost when they move.
geaibleu Posted February 3, 2011 Author Share #5 Â Posted February 3, 2011 Thank you all. I used a long lens: Telyt 350 R behind a window during the snow storm yesterday. Rest assured that I have every consideration for birds and their behaviour. The comments are somewhat part of a family in-joke about our resident "lazy bums" ie the many mourning doves that spend most of their day perched on this pine. However their slow moving (lack of de-icing like at Heathrow?) has sad consequences: later in the day I noticed quite a few dove feathers flowing in the wind. Most probably another of our frequent visitors (sharp-shinned Hawk) modified his usual woodpecker diet...
tmldds Posted February 3, 2011 Share #6 Â Posted February 3, 2011 Nice shot. Almost like an oriental silk painting. Â Tri:)
