horosu Posted February 4, 2011 Share #21 Posted February 4, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I put my name down on a reputable dealer's list in Vienna on the 26th June 2010 and was told two weeks ago they have received it. They surely begin to trickle in.

Rocabar Posted February 8, 2011 Author Share #24 Posted February 8, 2011 UPS delivered the lens yesterday....and i am quite disappointed. I never bought by mail order from the US before and i wasn't aware about (...not thinking to) any additional taxes and custom fees. Had to pay another $ 1456,00 on top of the $4995,00 for the lens (total US$ 6451,00 !!! ). On top of that i got one of those lenses with this annoying rattling sound when you move it... You were not aware thet if you import goods from the US to the EU you will have to pay duties and taxes??? I am quite surprised.... Sorry about the rattling in your lens, to your comfort I can say that it has no effect on your pictures Enjoy the lens now!

LeicaPassion Posted February 8, 2011 Share #27 Posted February 8, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) What a disappointment. Others on this forum have discussed rattling lenses. After reviewing their posts you may wish to contact the dealer and return the lens. I just sent a new lens back to a different dealer due to what may be a tiny hair between lens elements. It can be seen in every photo. My heart sank when I saw the first image.
Rocabar Posted February 8, 2011 Author Share #28 Posted February 8, 2011 yep. it performs fine, but the sound it makes is so strong that you could use it as a percussion instrument . I called Leica and they said it's normal due to the construction and everyone who has this lens will face this 'issue'

Derekj Posted March 10, 2011 Share #33 Posted March 10, 2011 The best strategy is just call around and ask. you never know if its sitting on a shelf somewhere. i walked into the leica boutique in tokyo in jan and picked it on the spot. granted they only had one but you never know. quality control is a problem. my brand new lens had a spec of dust on the inner element somewhere. luckily i noticed it the next day, went back and the boutique exchanged mine with another that was held for a pre-order (sorry) that has been perfect since. You would think someone would have had a look through the lens before it came out of the factory.
SteveYork Posted March 12, 2011 Share #34 Posted March 12, 2011 Was at my dealers this weekend and was told that because he could not get stock on either the 35 Lux Asph or 50 Lux Asph, he lost two M9 sales. If you are new to Leica, this lens shortage is a real headache. If you have existing glass already, no big deal. But I wonder just how many M9 sales to customers new to the Leica fold are being lost as a result of this lens shortage. I know my dealer updates Leica when incidences like this occur. Hopefully the other dealers are doing the same. For myself, I would like to demo the new 35 Lux Asph, but I just can't get my hands on one. So there's another lost sale.... What's ironic is that these days M users has so much choice too -- Leica, Zeiss and Voigtlander. Flash back ten years. Can you imagine a lens shortage then?
