colonel Posted January 27, 2011 Share #1  Posted January 27, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) hi, any had both and can compare/contrast ?  I want a light APS-C sensor camera with 30-50mm 35mm equiv high quality lens  My summary, from reading and looking is that:  1. Both well made in metal, but Leica better made and looks much nicer 2. Both slow in usage. Sigma slightly faster ? 3. Both good up to 800 ISO. Leica significantly better above ISO 800 4. Better software - With the leica you get lightroom free 5. 2.0 software from Leica looks to speed things up, no signs of new Sigma software 6. Boths lenses very good. Main difference ?  any comments, etc. ?
Advertisement Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Hi colonel, Take a look here Leica X1 vs Sigma DP2S. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earful Posted January 27, 2011 Share #2 Â Posted January 27, 2011 try jim radcliffe's site boxedlight.com. he has used both.
phancj Posted January 27, 2011 Share #3 Â Posted January 27, 2011 My brother has the DP2s. It's a great camera good build quality, great color and tonality. My only gripe is its small file size and less latitude for post processing.
colonel Posted January 27, 2011 Author Share #4  Posted January 27, 2011 thanks boxedlight is interesting  Its interesting that I am told the lens on the X1 is superb. Looking at Leica lens costs, the whole camera is around the cost of the equivalent leica M lens.  An odd though crossed my mind. If leica brought out a x1-20mm and a x1-70mm its worth buying the three cameras for my kit bag rather then an M9 and three lenses ...  ho hum. much to think about
h00ligan Posted January 27, 2011 Share #5 Â Posted January 27, 2011 To make that work IMO, they would have to make the x1 with faster lens and raise the price. Â I would have paid another $1000 for 1.8 or faster

Main difference ?  any comments, etc. ?  The X1 is infinitely better at 1600 and 3200 ISO because the Sigma caps at 800.  There is a lot of info at the Dpreview sigma forum that may be helpful. For what it's worth there seems to be a pretty fair number of folks who have mechanical trouble with the extending lens on the Sigma.  With the Nex as an option at a lower price I don't see the purpose of the Sigma at this point. Leica offers a "luxury" product with top image quality, at a luxury price. The Sony is a great second alternative for the bargain hunters.
jankap Posted January 27, 2011 Share #7 Â Posted January 27, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have bought the DP1S (28 mm eq). I have to be very patient, that is true. The lens is very good, but f/4 is slow too. One should use RAW, but the developer software SPP is very good (but also slow). Somehow one cannot understand the complaints, that the X1 is slow. It is a nice companion to my Dlux-4. Jan
