Last minute questions : going to buy M8

I'm 99 per cent sure that I'm going to order an M8 very soon, but I want to ask the experts here a few things first.

1) I'm ordering it from the UK, and it only comes with the UK charger. Is the Leica charger universal with the right adaptor, or will I need some kind of step-up or step-down device? (I'm in Japan)

2) It doesn't come with USB cables. This wouldn't bother me a bit with an SLR as I use a card reader; with the M8, can you do all the PP you might need just from the card reader? I'm not going to be shooting tethered or anything like that.

3) I use a mac. Will there be any issues with the software? I can't imagine there being any, but it pays to ask.

4) Is there a particular brand of memory card that you would recommend? I know it's SD only, but I've read conflicting reports of the maximum size (2 or 4GB).

If anyone can provide the answers to these, you'd be helping greatly.

Thank you!

1) i've bought mine in england and the plug came as us standard

2) never needed the cable. but in case you might need they are easily available everywhere

3) i am also on mac. not a single problem. i use apple's aperture.

4) you can also use sdhc, but in jpeg mode the counter on the top lcd screen will always show 999, and never count. in raw mode no problems. as a standard i always look for fast cards from good brands leica sandisk or lexar. they are more reliable.

1 - the original M8 charger comes with a set of plugs for the whole world - the newer one uses a standard figure-eight cable.

2. It is a normal USB-miniUSB cable, which you will never use.

3. In my experience the software runs as well on MAC as PC. I would recommend Lightroom.

4 Sandisk Ultra 4 GB is the most used and practical card. You may need an old small non-HC card if the camera has very old firmware to update it to the latest software.

Just to confirm:

been using on a Mac for 3 years, never even found where the cable goes. Newer macs have SD card slots.

Some like Aperture, others Lightroom. I shoot jpg and raw, import all into Iphoto, and then work the jpgs there, and go and spend time on the raw files in Photoshop or Capture One, or some other raw converter. The basic mac OS will read the M8 DNG file directly (preview, Iphoto), but there are better RAW converters out there for careful work.

All in all, they work very well together. Enjoy.
