acquiring a IIIb?

I am thinking of getting a IIIb. Have searched the forum for comments on loading modern cassettes, and I understand the arguments for trimming or not trimming the leader.

However I cannot get a clear line on this:

"... The original Leica FILCA brass cassettes made for the Leica screw mount cameras is in fact a bit taller than modern cassettes. What happens is the cassette drops down in the chamber causing the film to be drawn out at a slight upward angle. These cameras did not have a lower guide rail to hold the film in place untill serial number 570xxx when a bar was placed on the bottom door that would hold the film up where it came out of the cassette ...

... Some will fix this issue by placing either cardboard shims or felt between the bottom of the cassette and the bottom plate in order to raise up the cassette"

Given the date range for production of the IIIb (and the serial numbers) all of them would have this issue. Is that correct?

many thanks

Yes, I suffer the issue in my IIIc 383.xxx, not in my IIIf 725.xxx; but, if one gets accustomed, is not difficult to learn the right "movements" that allow to load correctly even the old cameras. Years ago, when I used regularly the IIIc, I usually had not problems, apart, sometime, lose one or two frames of the theoric 36... In brief, you must not be in hurry when loading...
