Leica's tech data sheet for D-Lux 5 shows three versions:

Just as a guess:

E version means EU?

U version means US?

But what's the TK version?

  • Turkman language?
  • Tokelau?
  • Turkey?
  • TK Solver?
  • Twist in Knots?

... But when I search for USA version of LX 5 it is the K version.

Do you think that might be the color designation, Ed? Panasonic often uses a -K to indicate "black" and a -W to indicate "white."

B&H's listing for the D-Lux 5 shows the 18151, as does Amazon.com's.

Interesting--Amazon.uk doesn't show the manufacturer's model number, but their ASIN (whatever that is) is different from what Amazon US shows:

Amazon.uk shows ASIN: B0045DDFSW

Amazon.com shows ASIN: B004432SVI

I think you guys are right--must be the Asian version.

"Taiwan and Korea" makes sense, but would never have occurred to me.

Do you suppose Leica doesn't offer it in Japan? I hadn't considered that. :o (Might have inexpensive competition. ;) )

Looking through all of the details I could find on the Leica website, I think that E is for Europe, U is for the US and Japan, and TK is for Asia except Japan. With the rest of the world fitted into the most appropriate regional version.

The differences appear to mainly confined to the documentation language, battery, charger and power leads supplied. Although Taiwan and Canada appear to gain a button template.

You may be right Howard. But from all reports there are at least 2 versions out there. One that does meters and the other that does feet (focusing distance).

I think Panasonic offers it in black, white and maybe red (Although I don't remember seeing any in red. I know they offer other cameras in red).

Also noted on this and other forums the EU version reads focusing distances in meters where my LX5 USA version reads it in feet. There is no setting to change this.

Yeah, the LX5 offers both versions, but not the D-Lux 5. It's only available in meters, strangely enough.

Howard you know this to be a fact? Not doubting you but personally I've never heard this, or simply don't remember hearing this.

Yes, it's true. Back when the question first came up, I contacted Leica Technical US and asked what the story was. Their answer was, all D-Lux 5 cameras are meters only, and that can't be changed. I posted it on the forum at the time, but there were a couple threads asking the same question, and you may not have seen it.

So it looks as if Leica decided not to buy both Panasonic versions. Interesting choice, isn't it? ;)

Yes interesting choice.

I'm actually looking for this option to be added in a new firmware. But then there may never be a new firmware for this camera.

The major difference is the recording. 18 150 can record only 29 minutes at a time. And the rest can record 13 hrs. 3 minutes at a time.
