X1 - System Case - who makes it?

My X1 arrived 10 days ago, but unfortunately there appeared a delay on supplying the leather transport case. I thus called my supplier to change it to the system bag after I read somewhere on here that the transport case was a bit fiddly, and you couldn't use it with the neck strap attached.

The system bag arrived today.

Actually in reality it turned out a bit smaller than I expected - though a very nice little bag I am pleased with it.

The design itrigued me a bit.

Over the years I have used a few BIllingham Bags and currently use two Billingam Leica Combination bags - one for a D3 and the other for a V-lux 1 plus other odds and ends I take on trips.

There does not appear to be a makers name on the X1 System Bag or country of origin but what struck me was its great similarity to the Billingham down to its internal layout and front pocket covered by the flap.

Out of curiosity I was wondering who makes this X1 bag? Is it Billingham?

Would you recommend the system case then? I'm trying to decide between the system case and the ever ready case, but I'm not sure what to go for? I think I'd prefer the ever ready but I don't like the grey leather, brown or black would be better IMO, decisions, decisions

I use the base part of the erc which is an advantage if you use the Leica hand-grip as I do. Occasionally I add the enclosure part, but it does entail removing the external viewfinder and stowing it in the supplied leather case. It is not a hardship.

I agree about the colour, but you get used to it. Brown is probably nicer, but does proclaim an expensive camera within!

It might be. IIRC, Billingham have made bags for Leica in the past.

Andy,

Just read your blog. My heart goes out to you.

I had a pom who passed on and it was a decade before I could bear to have another dog.

My Sheltie 'Prince" is now 8 and I dread to think of the day his time cometh.

I wish you happiness, peace in mind and spirit and hope you stay blessed,

CJ

Hmm, did leica get cheap on the case? Mine came with a 'velvet' pouch. Is in quotes because I have no idea what the actual material is, but it's not leather.

I just bought the ERC because the transport case was unavailable. Thought about the system case but needed something that fits in a bag.

Turns out I really like it. Taking it on a trip very soon, but so far I enjoy using it. All the problems I thought it would have seem to be a non-issue and I even like the colour.

I would think you could buy all three cases and find they suit different occasions, I can easily see myself doing that over time.

Edward, I was one of the 'early adopters' in the UK who suffered frustrating delivery delays. As compensation we were offered the leather erc which I accepted with grateful thanks. I could easily use the whole case for some trips; it just means removing the viewfinder and stowing it in the supplied leather viewfinder case. As it is, I tend to use the camera equipped with hand-grip and viewfinder and camera base, all in a Velcro lens wrap inside any one of several everyday bags. That method suits my general style of working. I agree, it is surprising that the VF did not come in the leather case.

To each his own, but I find carrying the camera in a luxurious bag too ostentatious and can land one in trouble in impoverished places...not to mention leather in tropical humid weather like where I am can accumulate some mould and that may get on the lens and spell disaster. I recall there are some pointers in the X1 manual about this if I am not mistaken.
