Ivan Muller Posted January 10, 2011 Share #1 Posted January 10, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does anyone know if LR can show the data from an exposure. I am talking about camera settings like M. A, S etc and where the focus point was and also if focus was manual, auto etc etc. In comparison, on DPP for Canon I can see exactly where the focus point was... Advertisement Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Hi Ivan Muller, Take a look here X1 data. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
JeTexas Posted January 10, 2011 Share #2 Posted January 10, 2011 It displays all the embedded EXIF data like aperture, shutter speed and ISO. Focus point, I don't know. That's not something that's ever appeared in my photos, but I've never looked for it.
Ivan Muller Posted January 10, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted January 10, 2011 Why I am asking is that I think it will be a help in practising manual focus and zone focus etc. sort of a confirmation after the fact...
h00ligan Posted January 10, 2011 Share #4 Posted January 10, 2011 hmm.. not sure how that would help in zone or manual.. unless you are moving the center box around when focusing - which in most cases with zone you wouldn't need to (since zone at say 2.8 would be pretty tough to nail imo). What specifically are you hoping to correct / examine? I don't know of a way to check focal point in LR, sorry.
Ivan Muller Posted January 10, 2011 Author Share #5 Posted January 10, 2011 I am trying all different settings on my camera, more info could be a help afterwards when files are downloaded, in checking where the focus actually was as opposed to where I thought it was. And also help me to show what mode I was using i.e manual focus , auto focus or even face recognition. I have al three as presets and because I use the viefinder a lot am not allways sure where the focus spot was....
Mr_Jones Posted January 10, 2011 Share #6 Posted January 10, 2011 I can't see a way to do that with LR. It would be useful, but it's often possible to do it by looking for the area of the photo most in focus. If you were using 11 point it will normally be the nearest object. ECliffordSmith Posted January 11, 2011 Share #7 Posted January 11, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Ivan, I have seen that the focus distance does get written into JPEGs when processed by Lightroom. I cannot see that information in Lightroom itself though. If you take a look at EXIF data for X1 files on Flickr you will often see the distance included. Ivan Muller Posted January 11, 2011 Author Share #8 Posted January 11, 2011 Thanks, will have a look.
Guest Holy Moly Posted January 11, 2011 Share #9 Posted January 11, 2011 This would not help because the focuspoint may be all over around.......
ECliffordSmith Posted January 11, 2011 Share #10 Posted January 11, 2011 Hi Holy Moly, While it is not a nice visual confirmation of the focus spot knowing the focus distance that the camera focused the lens at is in my opinion useful. In scenes with great depth of field it can help to clarify the critical focus. Also, when things dont turn out as you had expected (centre focus spot focus but when evaluating on the computer you notice a soft centre for example).
