holmes Posted December 11, 2010 Share #1 Posted December 11, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I can say with reasonable accuracy there are no S lenses. Was looking through B&H website for new lenses. Unavailable, no specified delivery time, unknown when any will arrive. Something is very screwy in Germany. If that's what they tell one of their largest US dealers. Pity the small shop. But to be introducing a new camera model and unable to supply ANY lens makes one wonder. Advertisement Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Hi holmes, Take a look here No S lenses in the States. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
kidigital Posted December 11, 2010 Share #2 Posted December 11, 2010 Umm ... just picked up the phone yesterday and could've grabbed a 180 from two different dealers this week. Stock is in short supply ... with a little checking around you can find a few lenses here or there. Not being apologetic as I certainly wish there was more availability ... jplomley Posted December 11, 2010 Share #3 Posted December 11, 2010 This is not limited to the S lenses. Try finding a 50 Lux Asph.
Bo_Lorentzen Posted December 12, 2010 Share #4 Posted December 12, 2010 Maybe - if Leica would not sell as many of them.. they would easier be able to make enough. .

dfarkas Posted December 12, 2010 Share #6 Posted December 12, 2010 Is the M production line independent fro the S line ? Mark Mark Tomalty Photography Montreal Canada Travel Landscape Stock FineArt Sort-of.... The assembly and testing areas are independent, but glass elements for both lens lines share the same grinding, polishing, centering, and coating equipment. And Bo is correct. It's not that lenses (both M and S) aren't being made and shipped. It's that the demand is outstripping the supply by a wide margin. Almost everything we receive from Leica each shipment goes straight out the door to those who've pre-ordered (or at least expressed and interest in getting a heads-up). We never have a chance to mark anything "in stock". For example, the Noctilux 0.95 has been shipping for about two years now and we have received a good number, but we've never shown it "in stock" on our website as we always have a few standing orders for them in between shipments. This will probably be the case for some time, but supply will eventually catch up to demand (like in the case of the M9, which took 1 year to equalize). The 180mm is just about there and within a few months the 35mm will be as well. David
