fnatic Posted December 11, 2010 Share #1 Posted December 11, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I want to buy one for my mom because she just wants to carry a camera around that does the same effect as her DSLR. unfortunately I don't have the money so I have to go for second hand ones. Leica D-Lux 4 : $500 Lumix GF1: $450 Is the Leica D-Lux 4's lens interchangeable? i'm thinking it is. it's Leica after all.
Advertisement Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Hi fnatic, Take a look here Leica D-Lux 4 or Panasonic Lumix GF1? . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted December 11, 2010 Share #2 Posted December 11, 2010 No. The DLux-4 has a short zoom lens. There is also a Panasonic equivalent.
trekrider55 Posted March 10, 2011 Share #3 Posted March 10, 2011 The lens is NOT going anywhere.
Digitom Posted March 16, 2011 Share #4 Posted March 16, 2011 I want to buy one for my mom because she just wants to carry a camera around that does the same effect as her DSLR. unfortunately I don't have the money so I have to go for second hand ones. So she is familiar with changing lenses and carrying all the equipment around, the GF1 is a nice solution maybe. The optical viewfinder is also a useful (but expensive) addition. On the other side a D-Lux 4 is also very well, but look at the small zoom factor which is only going up to 60mm! If that is ok, that little one is a marvellous thing! But I would prefer the D-Lux 5 over No. 4 (wider zoom, very good IQ at higher ISO up to 800 and partially 1600). A real alternative to SLR when looking for small and compact camera. Recommendable for D-Lux 5 is the electronic viewfinder. For D-Lux 4 there is only an optical version.
cernobila Posted April 2, 2011 Share #5 Posted April 2, 2011 I shoot only in JPEG and I had the Panasonic GF1......could not get used to the colours it gave me so I sold it, I much prefer the results from the D-Lux 5, most likely the D-Lux 4 would have the same firmware and results.......for me, buying the Panasonic Leicas is worthwhile just for the better JPEG colour results..... Clifton D-LUX 5 Posted April 5, 2011 Share #6 Posted April 5, 2011 If price is an issue there is also the Panasonic version of the D-Lux 5 available. Although I have no experience with it the Panasonic Lumix DMC LX-5 is the same camera as the Leica D-Lux 5 with some slight changes in design and firmware (so I have read). The cost of a new Pana LX-5 is under thr D-LUX 4 or GF-1. Good luck in your decision. Charlie
