Cheap protection for your X1

One thing that's worth checking into is a personal effects policy. I just got off the phone with my agent, and it looks like I can get the X1 and my MacBook insured for about $45 a year with no deductible. That includes ANYTHING that could possibly happen to it: dropping it, theft, etc. and you don't need to file a claim against your home/renter's policy.

Naturally, your costs may vary based upon your insurance company, if you have multi-line discounts, etc. Still, covering over $3k of easily damaged items for $45/yr implies a 1.4% probability of a total loss each year.

While the X1 does appear to be a pretty sturdy little camera, you never know what can cause electronics to go haywire.

What company is that? Seems too good to be true.

I have one of the few renters insurance policys that covers all my stuff anywhere its stolen: Country Financial. $21/mo no itemization covers laptops stolen in hong kong and my bicycle stolen on campus etc etc.

State Farm. The key is that this is in addition to my other policies and it covers only two items: a laptop and a camera.

(Note: I don't work for State Farm, don't receive money from them, etc. Other companies might offer similar prices, depending on what state you live in, etc.)

To be clear, they said in writing that it covers the laptop and computer even if you drop, soak, lose, or otherwise ruin your equipment?

Thanks.

Let's put it this way: the guy at my agent's office said that he dropped his macbook pro and busted the screen, and it was covered.

They've assured me that it covers everything. Naturally, I'll read my policy when it arrives, but I've had great customer service for the past 8 years so I'm not worried.
