Successful, free X1 file recovery after accidental re-format (Mac)

I wanted to post my successful experience at recovering the files on an SD card that I shot in an X1, and then accidentally reformatted in an M9.

 

I found a truly free utility called PhotoRec at PhotoRec - CGSecurity. I downloaded the utility and ran it on my card, using all default settings. It successfully recovered all of the images on the card which I had accidentally reformatted in the M9. This included both JPEG and DNG file types.
