I just reinstalled VueScan on my new MBP and it feels just like Old Home Week. This program is the BEST. I bot it in 1999 and have had free upgrades for the entire time. I remember the date because at the time I was working for a company with about 40 workstations doing architectural and design work. We had a collection of scanners from every vintage and manufacturer. Vuescan simplified the user experience enormously and meant any staff member could sit in front of any PC/Mac in the building without having to learn a new interface. A great piece of software. wparsonsgisnet Posted December 1, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted December 1, 2010 I scanned 2 b/w negs this weekend, using Ed Hamrick's advice from some release note, to do a four-pass scan. He noted that it would improve shadow detail. This turns out not to work so well for b/w, making the shadows darker for these negs. I went back to the single-pass scan. I have been using this software with immense enjoyment for more than a decade. I went 100% digital with the D2, so it's a treat to have this interface when I have to use a scanner. The scanner in my case is the Minolta 5400 Elite II, purchased JUST before they were disappeared. I installed the original software -- for the drivers -- and downloaded the newest VueScan, and MAGIC!, everything worked. I've been looking at this scanned on my workshelf for years, now, and wondering when I'd put it to use. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

I'll post after I've done all the damn spotting. Not being able to use the automatic spot removal with b/w is a drag. Even with a Zone VI electrostatic brush, there's some stuff left.
