I just opened the camera's case and saw a small

hit on the left side and cover is some mm moved underneath...:(

i have no idea how this happened

while im realy carefull carrying it and havent carried it

around lately. anyway as this remains a mystery, the

camera works fine but i can't see it like this.

anyone knows how much the cover will cost

to replace? in any way i think i will have to send it

for a check maybe

Welcome to the forum, dj!

Sorry about the 'ding,' but my camera has them as well.

It's annoying, but as long as the camera is working, I wouldn't send it in for a checkup.

Cosmetic damage is always expensive to repair, because Leica just about has to rebuild the camera in a new shell. And that's more expensive than the assembly-line production of the original camera. :(

Or when you say 'cover,' do you mean just the 'leatherette' and not the body itself? In that case, the work shouldn't be overly expensive.

Maybe you might post a picture?

Hi there,

thanks for replying.

i just took a pic with a cybershot

it shows the damage better than my explanation...

so can this part be replaced...and does it worth it?

i wonder how it happened because i've been so careful

with it and it seems as a "hard hit" to a corner or something...

Gee, you're right, that is ugly. It really does look like the kind of impact you'd have been aware of when it happened. :(

As long as the camera is working, you probably shouldn't send it in. But that mark is in an obvious place, so it'll definitely be an annoyance if you don't.

It looks as if that panel is pretty easy to replace, so cost shouldn't be too much. But since it looks like impact damage, Leica will rightly want to check everything on the camera and put it back into like-new condition. And they'll give you a one-year warranty if you have them do it.

The trouble is, even if the camera still works fine, that dent really looks bad.

That means the camera has lost some trade-in value if you ever decide to get rid of it. So either the new buyer or you will have to foot the bill to have it checked and repaired.

Maybe the best thing is to send it to Leica for a repair estimate, and decide what to do when you get the estimate. At least then you'll have a cost value.

Good luck, and do keep us posted! Sorry you've got the problem.

That looks really bad. Also it seems the impact was heavy to produce such a small but deep thing. My opinion: maybe the camera works now, but maybe also there could be a hidden problem inside now which may later lead to a complete break - and sure in a situation where you do not wanna miss the cam. I would send it to Leica CS directly and ask for repair and a check of the cam sure then is included so you get back a full working camera.
