Hello Again Everybody,

Just to better understand the English version in my Post preceding this I checked the German version. As per: "complete & completely" P2 says: "kompletten, vollstandig" followed by: digital portfolio of cameras.

Sorry for the lack of diacritical marks. I don't know how to do them w/ my computer.

The punctuation difference ( "&" in English while "," in Deutsch is from the two texts themselves.

Best Regards,

Michael

Michael.

I think all they are trying to say is that with the addition of the M9 (Full-frame), S2 (Medium Format) and V-Lux 2 (Prosumer zoom) all photographic bases are covered as they already have the D-Lux (point and shoot).

I also think all base are covered, and Leica is profitable. That is the real good thing about Leica's position now. The basic work is done. The other good news is Leica's unique offering. Their products are very differentiated and the brand name has a strong position in the industry.

Now they have to improve things, increasing the synergies among the different camera systems and increasing the integration of electronic components. It is a process, and it takes time. It is doable, but it is not easy. The new factory, new suppliers, partnerships, Asia versus Europe, worldwide distribution and support... You can figure out how complex is all that.

There's one glaringly empty base so far as I am concerned. No prizes.

Hello John,

Agreed. Maybe the M10 is the R soloution. No reason why it would not be once there is a digital sucessor that improves on the M range/viewfinder & zooms. Certainly the direction they are going for cost if no other reason. Accuracy will be better. Please don't forget Leica makes reasonably good digital rangefinders already & we know they make OK viewfinders & zooms (for the viewfinder). All they would need is an adapter for Flex/R lenses & another for S lenses. Electronics could easily adjust the interfacing as is done w/ the M9.

Not a lot of cost. Large return.

The only fly in the ointment is how do you make the box w/ all the doo-dads separable from the sensor & it's electronics? The inevitable question for a company known for not obsoleting its earlier equipment going further into an area where obselescence & inevitable discard is the rule since the sensor & ancillary electronics will certainly be transitory no matter how good.

Best Regards,

Michael
