pauledell Posted November 25, 2010 Share #2 Posted November 25, 2010 Euston, A beautiful shot of that gallant fighting lady. If I were a Brit, I would be heartbroken to see her decommissioned. Great composition, colors and clarity. Paul
Guest nafpie Posted November 26, 2010 Share #3 Posted November 26, 2010 Brit. taxpayer should be happy not to pay for this weapon any longer. Stefan
euston Posted November 26, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted November 26, 2010 Thank you, Paul. The end of a ship has much in common with the end of a life. There’s sadness but it is sometimes accompanied by mixed feelings. Stefan, I would be wary of telling the British taxpayer what to think, if I were you. Guest nafpie Posted November 26, 2010 Share #5 Posted November 26, 2010 Stefan, I would be wary of telling the British taxpayer what to think, if I were you. I know, some like or love (to pay for?) that weapons. Others don't. They can be a subject for great photographs anyhow.
RPS Posted November 28, 2010 Share #6 Posted November 28, 2010 Few like to pay taxes; fewer still like not having effective defenses when such defenses are needed. Euston - nice image.

cbretteville Posted November 30, 2010 Share #9 Posted November 30, 2010 Nice shot of the lady. The name HMS Ark Royal is one that brings back very fond memories and am sorry to hear that R07 has been decommissioned. My mum's best friend was married to a RN Commander that served aboard the previous Ark Royal (R09). In the winter of 1974 the flotilla visited Oslo after a naval exercise off the coast of Norway and my dad and I were invited. A very, very big deal for an 8 year old boy seriously interested in anything flying. A couple of weeks ago I found a few shots my dad took during our visit (only four frames, amazing). Here I am on her flight deck under the nose of an F4K Phantom from 892 sqn. Apologies for imposing on your thread Euston, but I just couldn't help myself. Cheers, Carl

biglouis Posted December 5, 2010 Share #11 Posted December 5, 2010 Lovely shot. I saw her come home to Portsmouth a few years back (I think it must have been sometime in 2001/2). What an amazing sight, filling the harbour as she sailed in. I wouldn't write her off just yet. With Korea brewing up a storm...
