Stefan, I would be wary of telling the British taxpayer what to think, if I were you.

I know, some like or love (to pay for?) that weapons. Others don't.

They can be a subject for great photographs anyhow.

Nice shot of the lady. The name HMS Ark Royal is one that brings back very fond memories and am sorry to hear that R07 has been decommissioned. My mum's best friend was married to a RN Commander that served aboard the previous Ark Royal (R09). In the winter of 1974 the flotilla visited Oslo after a naval exercise off the coast of Norway and my dad and I were invited. A very, very big deal for an 8 year old boy seriously interested in anything flying. A couple of weeks ago I found a few shots my dad took during our visit (only four frames, amazing). Here I am on her flight deck under the nose of an F4K Phantom from 892 sqn.

Apologies for imposing on your thread Euston, but I just couldn't help myself.

Cheers,

Carl

Lovely shot. I saw her come home to Portsmouth a few years back (I think it must have been sometime in 2001/2). What an amazing sight, filling the harbour as she sailed in.

I wouldn't write her off just yet. With Korea brewing up a storm...
