X-1 lens hood from SK Grimes

I'm a little uneasy about using the Nikon barrel (UR-E8) as a prototype. I have one and when I go to attach it to the camera mount it only threads on for about 1/4 turn, which to my mind is not good enough. I haven't been able to spot any jimmied threads on either the barrel or the camera mount, but I am really inclined to think that the threads are not a perfect match but there is just enough engagement to make what appears to be a tight fit without a full engagement of the entirety of the thread.

Comments, please.

I get about 450-degrees of rotation on mine before it's snug - more than enough to be secure, yet quick to get on and off. The threads seem to match up fine, but there's a lip inside that I think bottoms it out.

Note to all that I will be sending off my X1 to SK Grimes in the next day or two so that they can make the necessary measurements and make me a 2-part lens hood / filter holder.

He emailed me again today and said someone (must be you... many thanks) would be bringing in a camera for fitting.

Once he completes yours, he said he will post on their web site a way to order them

thanks for your effort to bring in a camera

I really hope he does an ADAPTER - HOOD/FILTER method rather than just a single piece.

If he did, would something like this work on the X1 with the adapter?

Bokeh Masters Kit

I'm having them make a 2-piece adapter. Hard to tell if the Bokeh Masters Kit would work or not. I can't tell from the web site what the minimum diameter of the lens (or whatever) has to be. I'm trying to have a final 52mm filter thread but you may be able to have them make a larger one if you wish. Ask them...

I just finished machining and painting 3 of these. However, I'm not liking the flat black, so they'll get a repaint with gloss this week before I add the 52mm threading.

I made these as a test, but my grinding, machining, and painting aren't up to the level of what I feel is professional enough to charge for, so if anyone wants one, I'll sell them at cost for $50 plus shipping. They will have square hoods that will fit the 52mm threading included, but I'm still waiting for those to show up from China.

Do the threads lock properly and have enough room for filters? If so, send me a paypal addy after your repaint..and I appreciate your work. Thank you.

Adapter

Like this guy ( http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/forum-zur-leica-x1/123792-leica-x1-filter-adapter-gegenlichtblende-2.html#post1539420 )

tells us in the german forum, fits one side the x1 and the other side has 52mm for filters.

I ordered one yesterday and I am hoping it will be delivered this week, then I can tell you exactly.

Whoooa! Cheap too! Anyone know of lens hood options that would fit?

Anything with a 52mm thread. Search square lens hood 52mm on eBay. Or if you want a round M-style vented hood you'll have to order a 49mm one and then a 52-49mm step-down ring.

The question is, how tall is this adapter tube? If it's much longer than the extended lens, you start getting vignetting when you add lens hoods and filters.

I just secured an older 135mm M lens via eBay, so if anyone is interested in an actual "Leica" macro converter for one of these adapters, let me know. I should be able to put one together with 52mm threading for about $200.
