D-Lux 5 External Electronic ViewFinder Choices?

Technically, I don't think there is any difference. Tried to pull those guys legs who seriously believe the D-Lux5 and LX5 are different cameras. They aren't and neither are the EVFs.

Name and prices are hugely different, obviously. I find it quite remarkable that Leica can charge a price for an EVF which exceeds the price for a new LX5.

It is also remarkable that Pana sells the EVF in Europe for 199 euro

The D-LUX5 and the LX5 are 2 different cameras. I own them both, and they feel and look different.

My daughter preferes the Pana above the Leica.

My daughter likes the Leica without grip, I like it with grip.

When we talk about the differences, we talk about looks, how it lays in the hand, and not about the inner things, we all know that inner, it is the same cam. But a total different feeling, holding them... .

I use one on my LX5. Very handy, but the image in the viewfinder is a little course. I've heard that Panasonic is working on a replacement, but there is no release date.

A little coarse for sure but it works. I hope they come out with a better one I will one of the first in line to get it. I shot over 1,100 pictures using my D-Lux 5 with the viewfinder on at a large sports event that lasted 4 days, most of it was indoors. Almost all where keepers even in the digital zoom range.

Great little camera. I wish the X1 had the zoom range that the D-Lux 5 has or maybe a tad more I would buy it.

mm this will put the “cat amongst the pidgeons” -- I use the Leica Universal on my DL4..

I set it up on each setting & saved the images, then I determined what I saw thro” the VF & what the camera recorded..I know the Universal cost as much as the camera but as I turn Off the screen/monitor most of the time I am more than happy with the expenditure.

At first I did use a small Voigtländer VF..but somehow all it did was make me squint & I found no relevance to my picture taking situation..

In addition I can use the Universal on my pending X1 purchase..I’m still deciding.. Ideally I will need to try an X1 for a few days & go shoot................:o

Has anyone tried the Panasonic DMW-LVF1 on a D-Lux 5? This is the same one as used on the Panasonic GF-1. :)

I just bought one for my D-Lux5 (primarily because price was much much less than the Leica equivalent) and am very pleased with it. IMHO an EVF was just what the D-Lux range had been lacking.

Have been contemplating an EVF for my DL5. After all my research I could see any difference between the Leica and Pana EVF (turns out they are the same). Took the plunge last week and wished I had bought one earlier (it was the Pana by the way.

Oddly enough, a few months ago I tried the Leica EVf in the Mayfair shop, London and was considerably unimpressed by it. It was jerky and gave a blue hue. but the Pana EVF gives a relaively smooth picture and a far truer colour rendition.

AND ALL FOR HALF THE PRICE OF THE LEICA EVF.

I have the Panasonic EVF for my DL5 and am very happy with it. The diopter knob on it can help sharpen the image. it certainly helps with composition and checking the histogram in bright light. It comes with a nice little case that clips on to the camera strap. I use it all the time.

The Panasonic Viewfinder:

still using it

Still loving it.

Beside all compromizes so mich better then walking around in bright sunlight seeing nothing on the screen or with a cam on the end of the "long arm".

Gives a good feel of real old photograsphy.

And is very discret.

I would never wait for a maybe coming up HiRes viewfinder.

The cam is (for a Pana digi-product) long time on the market - and there is still no HiRes viewfinder yet.

FInally I think there will never be one.

The actual viewfinder is -for me- perfect.

OK, here goes...I purchased the Panasonic EV, being that it's the same as Leica's EV. Even though there are differences between the cameras there appears none between the EVs. It works just fine with the Giotto screen protector in place.

Really there are NO differences between the cameras other than the case and some menu options. Other then those small changes the cameras are exactly the same. So all add-ons and batteries sold by either Pana or Leica work on both cameras.

Hi there

am about to go on holidays with my Dlux5 and am looking to buy a EVF - can someone please tell me if the EVF shows shutter/aperture settings as on the rear screen or is it just a viewfinder.

thanks

Many thanks ... sorry to labour the point, but if I'm manually adjusting the aperture, speed then I can see the adjustments in the EVF ?

apologies again

Yes everything that is displayed on the LCD is displayed on the LCD of the EVF.

It is an Electric View Finder. It would be awfully stupid to just display what the lens is seeing without any other info.

Buy the Panasonic version. It IS the same as the Leica. There is no difference but the name printed on it.
