Hello to everyone, this is my first post

I just got my first Leica, a M4-P and a summilux 50mm pre ASPH e46 both in pristine condition but when I focus the superimposed image in the range finder never aligns totally it moves slightly under the fixed image. the minimal gap is more apparent looking at something like a flat sign with letters. I developed the first test roll and at f1.4 I think it is slightly off.

how can I calibrate this small discrepancy in the RF?

Hi.Luis, welcome to the forum and to the wonderful world of Leica Film Cameras.

Your problem it's quite common (a rangefinder is not a very good shock-proof device), but doesn't seem to be very difficoult to solve. Just bring or send your M4-P to a competent technician in your area and give your camera a full CLA. You will rest assured that you'll never have any problems again for a VERY long time.

Enjoy photograhy.

On an m4-p the red dot isn't above the lens so the alignment screw sits behind the screw on the front of the top cover between the VF window and the frame line illumination window.

I had an m4-p a while back and it had the same issue when I bought it. it was fixed by a local Leica tech in less than a minute.

Your camera should focus fine if you can see past the misalignment. I couldn't so I had to get it fixed. Such things just annoy the h##l out of me.

I agree that if you got it in a shop you should go back and talk to them. Maybe they'll give you some of your money back or have it fixed for you.

Welcome to the forum and enjoy your M4-p, it is a great camera.

Carl

Thank you all for the answers and the kind welcome to the forum!

I live in mexico and the camera was bought in KEH but a family member brought it for me so maybe it could have suffered a bump, I chequed the focusing in a new roll and it does focus correct, with a really narow DOF at 1.4 of course, but it bothers me a lot with the double image and makes focusing really dificult. I talked to a camera repair man, old school, and old man so he has experience fixing all kinds of rangefinders so he will fix it tomorrow. the placement of the screw is a big help!

thank you again, and looking forward to this new experience!!
