RockyIII Posted November 20, 2010 Share #41 Posted November 20, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I can almost hear Steven Wright telling a joke about a lens becoming soft focus after he accidently washed it in Downy. Rocky

ho_co Posted November 21, 2010 Share #44 Posted November 21, 2010 ... The answer from Leica was, since it was fresh water, pack the lens with a silica gel dessicant. It should cost about $200 to repair. My waranty of course is now void.(But the answer much better than I feared). I sent it off with a couple of silica gell packs from a guitar store that I already had. Fantastic! Glad to hear they feel the damage may not be so bad! And we've all learned something. k_g_wolf ✝ Posted November 29, 2010 Share #51 Posted November 29, 2010 Indeed, a VERY happy ending. Great service. That exactly is one of the reasons why I still try to stick to the LEICA-brand, although many of my "fellows in photography" recommend to switch to C and/ or N. Best regards GEORG
LeicaBraz Posted November 29, 2010 Share #52 Posted November 29, 2010 We should possibly start a new thread on which camera bag is good for washing with the camera inside. The OP´s is not, for starters.

That must be a Comfort to you Seriously, good to hear that you have a happy ending. Regards, Bill Gosh Bill, I'm DAZled by your quick wit here. And I'm sure that the OP will be happy as long as there are no TIDE marks on the lens barrel, or little white blotches that look like FAIRY SNOW between the elements. wparsonsgisnet Posted December 1, 2010 Share #56 Posted December 1, 2010 What I find hilarious is WHO washes a camera bag????? And even IF one wanted to wash a camera bag, mine are to big and I wouldn't even of thought of ever washing one, WHO wouldn't check it and remove everything in it. Did you wash your SD cards and or a couple of rolls of film. Actually, I do. I find that when I go to a restaurant where there is cooking oil (being kind, here) in the atmosphere that my bag smells afterward. Sorry to be a wimp, but I cannot bear to bear odors (pun intended). So, far, no lens in the wash water. Congrat's to the OP, who's gonna get a shiny, old lens.

Nicoleica Posted December 2, 2010 Share #58 Posted December 2, 2010 Update: Leica is fixing my lens under warranty and I'll have it in 2 weeks!!!!!!! And yes, I told them exactly what happened. I's great to hear that. I wonder if Leica were so intrigued to know just how a lens copes with a machine-wash, that they decided it was worth eating any repair costs to find out. It will be interesting to see if the next printing of the Leica warrantee makes any mention about washing lenses?
