Archiver Posted November 21, 2010 Share #21 Â Posted November 21, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I tried to sell my GXR A12 earlier in the year because of annoying AF perfomance (speed hunting, inaccuracy), but after the latest FW upgrade played with the thought of adding the new 28mm module and selling the X1 instead. However, I'll wait with the final decision until FW 2.0 is available. Provided AF will be as fast as the GXR's, the Leica will be a keeper. Eventually, there is still no alternative in sight when size/weight/IQ/UI are the decision criteria (no, the new Fuji is not one, it's to bulky). Â Those are interesting thoughts. I've been watching the GXR as well, and the new firmware is really making a splash among A12 users. The GXR and the Fuji X100 do one thing that the X1 will never do - video. Â Video is a big plus for me, especially large sensor video. I always use a video-capable compact along with the M9 wherever I go, so a large sensor compact with decent video would attract me. But the upcoming Fuji X100 looks a little too big, almost the size of the M9 itself, and definitely bigger than a Panasonic GF or Oly EP. Â If the X1 did 720p video, even in the stupidly large mjpeg format ... no contest. I'd buy one. If video didn't matter to me, then I'd look at the X1 with the new firmware. jsrockit Posted November 21, 2010 Share #22 Â Posted November 21, 2010 Why don't I care about video? Is this a consumer type thing? Meaning is this more for people trying to take pictures of friends and family rather than doing photography for photography's sake? To me, if I was into video, I'd buy a proper video camera. What am I missing?

h00ligan Posted November 21, 2010 Author Share #25  Posted November 21, 2010 Yes, I'm aware..however the benefits for students and amateur videographers found in modern dslr's etc are still there. I didn't see any rolling shutter issues in the episode of house shot with 5dmk2's  Perhaps I should have phrased it differently..  Large sensor cameras with video allow a good portion of advanced video cameras at a fraction of the price. A good trade off for amateurs and students on a budget.

I guess that in House they used this in order to minimize that effect.  I've worked a lot with the 5D MkII and it indeed has this problem when shooting handheld or fast panning. For me video has very little interest - it seems much easier to produce poor video than poor stills - but I've tried the video modes on my iPhone 4 and GF-1, and I can see the attraction for those who are more interested in this kind of thing than I am. jsrockit Posted November 22, 2010 Share #32 Â Posted November 22, 2010 Don't many companies who make video cameras also make still cameras? WTF are the companies doing putting better video tech in still cams than video cams?
Lost. Posted November 23, 2010 Share #33  Posted November 23, 2010 Wow, you guys are now just having the video in a still camera debate? It's been beaten to death, two years ago when the D90 came out, then the 5DII.... sheesh. Since some of you obviously have no idea what you're talking about, here's a short video made with the 5DII, look closely.... try making images like that with a video camera that costs less than $50,000.  http://vincentlaforet.smugmug.com/gallery/6042742_wZKiA#377930419_dgxvY-A-LB  Back on topic sort of.... I'm glad v1.0 leaves something to be desired for some and has room for improvement. I bought my camera used for $1650 on Amazon as a matter of fact. Had a few minor scuffs on the bottom, and I sold the LR serial # on ebay for $150. My $1500 Leica camera sure does make nice photos though.... lol  I hope the used market goes up once the new firmware comes out - then I can't lose when I move to a M9.... I might even make money off of the X1 after using it for a while!
h00ligan Posted November 23, 2010 Author Share #34 Â Posted November 23, 2010 Chitown, I know we're on the same side of the conversation, but honestly...calm down..add a bit of tact. This is not the board to be abrasive, trust me. Â Glad you're enjoying your x1, show us some sample shots!
Lost. Posted November 23, 2010 Share #35 Â Posted November 23, 2010 Add a bit of tact? Â Really? Â No wonder you catch so much flak around here. As far as I can see most drama involves you in these threads. I wonder if you are the problem around here. Â There's nothing abrasive about my post, just the facts. People are beating a real dead horse (OFF TOPIC) with the whole video on a camera discussion and should look outside this little Leica bubble. Really. Â And how much I paid for my used X1 with v1.0 is very much on topic of this discussion, so I'm not sure what you mean. Â I lead a pretty interesting life and usually have something good to contribute to an online community (like the first person to try out v2.0 from this forum) , but this place had me wondering from the first day I lurked with all the mindless elitist off topic bickering. I figured I'd give it a try but am not impressed at all. And now here I am waisting my time, falling right into it, instead of going somewhere I can actually learn something from. Â Â See ya! h00ligan Posted November 23, 2010 Author Share #36 Â Posted November 23, 2010 Who said anything about price? What did I do to deserve your attention, I was agreeing with you and trying to save you some hassle. Shouting at people through a keyboard is counterproductive. Â Btw, bold text and comments like 'since you don't know what you're talking about' are generally considered abrasive. Â Btw, I liked your thread on dpreview, certainly interesting two wheel shots. I'd rather you didn't bugger off, and I wasn't trying to be a jerk, just the opposite. Â Take care mate.
Guest stnami Posted November 23, 2010 Share #37  Posted November 23, 2010 Chi .......Vincent had a few of hundred thousand dollars of gear plus some and a whole team to make these videos he was basically fitted out as a video production team ........... plus some hefty canon sponsorship that would make you wet your jocks ......... it ain't off the shelf stuff  Then again you are not a Ducati rider ......... Dan States Posted November 23, 2010 Share #38 Â Posted November 23, 2010 Another thread has fulfilled its natural destiny on the Leica forum. How many of these things DON'T end up as a food fight?
stunsworth Posted November 23, 2010 Share #39 Â Posted November 23, 2010 Dan, it's mainly the digital forum. Usually when people feel they are the only ones with a valid opinion, when as so often in life it's really about choosing the compromises that suit you as an individual.
