Advertisement Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 Hi Guest WPalank, Take a look here Nik- 64 bit. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
DavidStone Posted November 16, 2010 Share #2 Posted November 16, 2010 Thanks for the info. However, I went into the Nik website and downloaded the trial applications - the only way I could see to get my free upgrade. What I got was two files of zero size, and content. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Or should I wait until I get an e-mail from Nik? David
Guest WPalank Posted November 16, 2010 Share #3 Posted November 16, 2010 David, I think there have been problems in the past where the US release comes before the European/Asian release. What I did was go to the Nik home page, Menu>Downloads. Then select the product (Dfine 2.0 for example), click "Download". Input my registered email and OS then hit the OK button. The package was downloaded without a hitch.
DavidStone Posted November 16, 2010 Share #4 Posted November 16, 2010 Yes, there seems to be a difference here. Located in Europe, what I'm being offered when I click on "64-bit upgrade" is just the demo version, which then does not produce a useable file. Last time this happened, I sent an e-mail to Nik, and they sent me a code, which worked. Might have to do that again, but I'll wait a few days first. Thanks, David
250swb Posted November 16, 2010 Share #5 Posted November 16, 2010 I saw this news on DPR and went to the Nik site. I went to the demo download page and put in my email address on the prompt, downloaded the demo's of Silver Efex and Color Efex to Windows> Photoshop, and followed the instructions. The FAQ says I didn't need to put in my original serial codes, but I did need to, but other than that both now work perfectly in 64 bit, yippee! wparsonsgisnet Posted November 17, 2010 Share #6 Posted November 17, 2010 I don't think I have the 64-bit version and can't find the version number in the software. I sent an email to NIK support.
thetoness Posted November 17, 2010 Share #7 Posted November 17, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) When you open up any of the Nik Software applications, in the right hand corner you will see a Nik icon. Double click on that icon and window will open up that shows what version you are using. Hope this helps. Cary

DavidStone Posted November 17, 2010 Share #9 Posted November 17, 2010 By going back to the e-mail I got from Nik a while back, I found my way to the correct web-page, put in my customer number, or whatever it's called, and downloaded and installed the latest versions. Now for the stupid question: how do I tell if they are 64-bit or just 32? David

I can't find anything that tells me 32 or 64. Neither can I find this info on the Nik website. David

I even looked in the user manual and didn't see where this was. Original doesn't get al lot of points when we're talking about User Interface. Gimme VANILLA, any day. Thanks for that. I do have 1.007. Now, I guess I have to turn my PSCS5 into the 64-bit setting. I'll look around. Regards,
thetoness Posted November 17, 2010 Share #13 Posted November 17, 2010 Couldn't agree with you more. Trust me, I didn't find it by myself. A call to customer service enlightened me. Also, in today's day and age, you would think they would have an "auto-update" function like every other piece of software on the market. What a pain to keep the Nik software up to date. C1 takes the cake for painful updates. I always get nice emails about "xxx is now available," but then they need zillions of data to update and, in my case, often an email query. Nice software, but these guys are paranoid. They ought to use a dongle like ImagePrint does so they can sleep at night.
archi4 Posted November 17, 2010 Share #15 Posted November 17, 2010 No problem at all. Using login and password, went to the page where all my software is registered and downloaded the latest versions. Installed smoothly on existing licenses. Was however disappointed in the quality of d-fine as compared to the noise reduction in Lightroom 3.3 for M9 files at 1600 and 2500. Maurice

David Thanks to Andy Barton for this tidbit: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/digital-post-processing-forum/127622-photoshop-cs5.html#post1520923 If you are in Photoshop and you haven't forced the program to run 32 bit, then you are running in 64 bit. So if the software shows up (Dfine for example) then by definition it is 64. Hope that helps.
LuxBob Posted November 18, 2010 Share #17 Posted November 18, 2010 I did an update about two weeks ago and all went well. It got over my problem of crashes when I went to Nik from Aperture. Having read this I need to check that I finally have 64 bit set on both sides. Nik do irritate me though for their high pricing in Europe and the difficulty of circumventing their European set-up - where's the value or the added value for the higher pricing? For me and I suspect many others it is only downside to go through their European operation. They were also the most unfriendly stand I visited at Photokina.
