man:men Posted July 11, 2006 Share #2 Posted July 11, 2006 lovely, like most of your pics manfred
Guest evita Posted July 11, 2006 Share #3 Posted July 11, 2006 would be a great subject, but I don't like the composition at all, too squeezed into the left part, and empty on the right. the wall doesn't bring me nothing, pity!
rainer_p Posted July 11, 2006 Author Share #4 Posted July 11, 2006 ....thanks alot Manfred and also evita. I framed it this in purpose as I liked it this way. don't think that photography is an exact science. the man with th kid are enough to the middle to keep the photo from falling and the empty space is needed to taker away from the "squeezed" way YOU see it evita
Guest imported_stefan_r Posted July 11, 2006 Share #5 Posted July 11, 2006 not sure about this one.. I get the feeling Rainer that this was not your day, like in the others I cant see a meaningful composition, maybe going down to the flor helps.. also I dont like the "all sharp" effect here in this one. it looks like that you had very strong light this day. regards Stefan
Guest evita Posted July 11, 2006 Share #6 Posted July 11, 2006 the man with th kid are enough to the middle to keep the photo from falling and the empty space is needed to taker away from the "squeezed" way YOU see it evita if there was less space to the right there would have been more to the left, thus less squeezing, but it's your picture, if you're happy with it then everything is okay, isn't it? and no, photography isn't an exact science, but composition helps the feelings to find their way through a photograph, I think
rainer_p Posted July 11, 2006 Author Share #7 Posted July 11, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) .....Stefan, that heavy sun we have here actually just makes me nuts sometimes not easy playing with the depth of field when the tri-x is started with its 400 iso speed and the limited speed of the M. Don't know but I liked this thing somehow. maybe it's that I have a good contact with this musician and just finished a roll of my rollei on him..... anyway, if I read right between your lines, you like other of my photos and that means alot to me..... the other day, at work I browsed your site and it's not easy to make up my mind but the choise is getting closer
rainer_p Posted July 11, 2006 Author Share #8 Posted July 11, 2006 .....evita, I was giving my point but never ment to hold the truth. it is true that it is my pic and that I like it but I also like to share my stuff and it's always pleasent when others like our work aswell, isn't it? as I said to Stefan, maybe the fact that I have a good contact with the guy makes me appreaciate this thing more as it is actually worth. you know, just like those family portraits people post alot and I understand means alot to them but leaves the viewer, stranger to his family, cold ..... greets
Guest evita Posted July 11, 2006 Share #9 Posted July 11, 2006 well, Rainer, I think you have a very interesting person and envoirment there, something that says something even to those who don't know him. there's more than just the cutsie family/friend shot, but for me, in the picture above, it doesn't work as it is, that's all... and I think you have some great pictures, that's why I bothered posting in the first place
stuny Posted July 11, 2006 Share #10 Posted July 11, 2006 Rainer - Didn't we see this musician in another photo? this is lovely for its content, tones and details.

christoph_d Posted July 12, 2006 Share #14 Posted July 12, 2006 Hallo Rainer, I like the situation that you captured, and as always your picture is technically excellent. Won´t be saying anything about the composition, has been done enough above. The 6x6 shot I find altogether the better one, also due to the limited depth of field. Perhaps, you should invest in a second M-body so in the future you could carry both Trix and something like FP4 ? Best regards, C.
rainer_p Posted July 12, 2006 Author Share #15 Posted July 12, 2006 hi christoph, nice to see you over here aswell. i would love a second M but you know the prices of those beasts tri-x exposes greatly at 200 and i should have set it on my cam. tried out at 100 once but was disapointed. thanks again for stopping by
Guest imported_stefan_r Posted July 12, 2006 Share #16 Posted July 12, 2006 Rainer, in the last one, did your blur the background in PS, or why does he has that halo around his hat?
Guest agnoo Posted July 12, 2006 Share #17 Posted July 12, 2006 Rainer, i prefer the Rollei-shot from the known reasons. About the second M-body you should think about a cheap HEXAR RF with 1/4.000 sec., she´s my choice when i need small DOF at bright days. You should also think about a grey-filter for your M to avoid this trouble. Best, Ronald
rainer_p Posted July 12, 2006 Author Share #18 Posted July 12, 2006 ....Stefan you know that I think just like you about the afterwork on prints and aside of resizing for the net I didn't do anything. I just did a quick masking under the enlarger and didn't take the time to cut out the shape of the man in a paper for that. Just a simple sheet did the job. yeah ronald, good suggestion. I'll think of that.......when I have some money
ptomsu Posted July 12, 2006 Share #19 Posted July 12, 2006 looks just good!!
Guest agnoo Posted July 12, 2006 Share #20 Posted July 12, 2006 Rainer, not that i want to promote Non-Leica-stuff, but in this case (few money, need for short times), the HEXAR RF is quit affordable (around 500,- Euro for a good, used body). Did this last year and am very pleased with the camera. Ah, one thing, when using longer lenses, you should adapt the "Auflagemass" to Leica specs. This is a simple job for a photo-mechanic, here in Germany you get this for around 80-100,- Euro. Best, Ron
