ptarmigan Posted November 11, 2010 Share #3 Posted November 11, 2010 There's 3 options. Option one as above but that doesn't get rid off the the files associated with the programme. Option two is use the uninstaller that came with the software. Option three is to use something like CleanMyMac which I find great and it's pretty cheap. MPerson Posted November 11, 2010 Share #5 Posted November 11, 2010 I use AppZapper. But there are plenty of others.
adan Posted November 12, 2010 Share #6 Posted November 12, 2010 The deal is that most software has, in addition to the program itself, libraries and preferences scattered in other places than the "applications" folder. I have about a dozen different "Adobe" sub-folders in various places (Utilities, Application Support, ColorSync, Preferences, etc. etc.) One either needs un-installer software, or the Spotlight search program and a REALLY GOOD understanding of the OSX file structure, to get rid of everything. wilfredo Posted November 13, 2010 Author Share #7 Posted November 13, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I will try some of these options. All I want is for the printers not to appear as options when I go to print. I only have two active printers but 4 show up on my printer menu. Thanks! ho_co Posted November 14, 2010 Share #8 Posted November 14, 2010 ... All I want is for the printers not to appear as options when I go to print.... I'm certainly no Mac specialist, but couldn't you just delete them from System Preferences > Print & Fax?
Shootist Posted November 14, 2010 Share #9 Posted November 14, 2010 I will try some of these options. All I want is for the printers not to appear as options when I go to print. I only have two active printers but 4 show up on my printer menu. Thanks! I know nothing about Mac's but there must be a area, like in Windows, that holds/displays a list of printers. In Windows you go to that, Control Panel\Printers & Faxes, and right click on the printer-s you want to unistall and select "Delete". Also in the accompanying software installed with the printer drivers there should be a uninstall option. Like Howard stated. Oh and by the way in your first post you talk about software. Print drivers are really software, you can't do anything else with them except print something through another program. Yes most printer come with additional software of some type but then I wouldn't really call those software. Most are only there to interact with the printer. Nicoleica Posted November 14, 2010 Share #10 Posted November 14, 2010 I will try some of these options. All I want is for the printers not to appear as options when I go to print. I only have two active printers but 4 show up on my printer menu. Thanks! Hi Wilfredo. If you go to the 'Print & Fax' system preferences screen, you'll see a list of your printers in a box on the left hand side. If there are any printers there that you don't want, just highlight them (one at a time.) and then click the '-' sign at the bottom of that box. This will then remove them. If they show somewhere else (Some printers can show as multiple devices if they have multiple functions.), please post a screen shot of the problem area, and we can then help you in more specific detail. h00ligan Posted November 26, 2010 Share #11 Posted November 26, 2010 A program called hazel has an app sweep feature. It works better in my testing than app zapper. It also allows you to set up rules for folders, which can be very handy. Any time you trash an app it automatically finds the other relevant files and asks if you want to delete them. It is also smart enough to sense reinstalls. As for printing, keep in mind bonjour printers show up automatically as well.
