Snakepottery Posted November 8, 2010 Share #1 Posted November 8, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Unfortunately my old Epson R2400 has died and it looks like I will need to get a replacement. What is the teams opinion of the R2800 or the Canon 9500 Pro. Is here much difference between the two other than he Canon being £100 more? I mostly print in B&W so that is an important factor. The 3800 is overkill for me too. I was happy with the 2400 so anything better is a bonus! Ink consumption is a consideration too. Any thoughts would be most welcome! Thanks in advance. microview Posted November 8, 2010 Share #2 Posted November 8, 2010 Epson r2880 has been reduced in price (see my posting below) until end of December. Everyone says the (A2) 3880 is cheaper to run – ink consumption of smaller printer is typically expensive -- but you have to try to assess running cost vs the fact that the installed cartridge is supposed to be used within a year (six months according to Epson). As you will doubtless know, if you switch from glossy to matte papers with the 2880 this involves exchanging a black cartridge which apparently guzzles more inks. That said – and I have had good use from a Canon 8500 (A4 only) – everyone seems to rate the b/w prints from the Epsons as superior.
Snakepottery Posted November 8, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted November 8, 2010 Thanks Microview. I think the R2880 looks like the way forward especially as it is reduced. Cheers Andy
microview Posted November 8, 2010 Share #4 Posted November 8, 2010 Oh, Gloucestershire – that's where I come from (Nailsworth/Gloucester, now London). Anyway if there's someone at home to take the item, r2880 is cheapest via Amazon: "£449.99 & this item Delivered FREE in the UK with Super Saver Delivery. See details and conditions. In stock but may require up to 2 additional days to deliver."
Snakepottery Posted November 9, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted November 9, 2010 Dursley to be precise!! Just up the road from where you were in Nailsworth. Yes, I spotted Amazon, a bargain I think. I was hoping to spend my Paypal slush fund on some nice new glass but looks like i will now have to buy a printer. Never mind! Thanks Andy
microview Posted November 9, 2010 Share #6 Posted November 9, 2010 Yes, I spotted Amazon, a bargain I think. Well that was yesterday – tonight it's shot up to £600. Warehouse Express are (in my view) prompt and reliable and their current offer is £498.
janki Posted November 9, 2010 Share #7 Posted November 9, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I wish to purchase me a new printer. Epson's A3 size 2880 printer is really suitable for my use. But, I do not like having to change a black cartridge every time I switch between matte and glossy paper. I observe that the price of this printer has dropped in the past. I have also seen that it is taken out of the assortment of some retailers. Maybe it means that a new Epson A3 size model is just around the corner? Does anyone know if it is possible to print Epson's own paper, Premium Luster Photo Paper, 260 gram, with this 2880 model? Based on this data sheet to judge, it does not look like it's a custom profile for this particular paper.
