cnguyen Posted January 15, 2007 Share #1 Posted January 15, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) It's a wondeful little camera with a 50mm f2 Summitar . Camera circa 1955 and lens circa 1949. I tested the Summitar on my M8 and the results are very good. Enjoy the Leica pics ! Welcome, dear visitor! tobey bilek Posted January 15, 2007 Share #3 Posted January 15, 2007 Clean it properly so as not to damage the soft coating. They are nice lenses.
cnguyen Posted January 15, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted January 15, 2007 I was lucky to get this summitar in immaculate condition. No coating marks or haze whatsoever. I takes sharp pictures too. That says a lot for 50 year plus camera + lens.

k_g_wolf ✝ Posted January 16, 2007 Share #6 Posted January 16, 2007 Great product, enjoy the camera. From the tiltle of your post I feared somebody put red snakeleather on a IIIF, but this way it looks much more classic ... Best

earleygallery Posted January 16, 2007 Share #8 Posted January 16, 2007 From the tiltle of your post I feared somebody put red snakeleather on a IIIF, but this way it looks much more classic ... Yes I was also fearing the worst! Charles, that's a lovely example you have. I've noticed a definate increase in interest and use of the LTM Leica's recently. I have the non self timer version. I've collected a range of 50mm lenses for mine, it came with a Summar when I bought it, I have a very clean Summitar which came with another camera, but it needs a CLA as the aperture ring is far too stiff to use. I also have 5cm Elmar 3.5's (black and red scale) and a 2.8. Personally I think the 3.5 Elmar is the perfect match for the camera and the quality from my old version (I've not yet had time to photograph with red scale or 2.8) is amazing. But of course the Summitar is usefully faster. Have you posted any photos taken with camera or lens?
jova Posted January 16, 2007 Share #9 Posted January 16, 2007 @ Charles Nice to see somebody else is using this beautiful old lens! Is it possible to collapse the lens while mounted on a M8? cnguyen Posted January 16, 2007 Author Share #11 Posted January 16, 2007 James - I have a roll of film in my IIIF right now so I'l try to post some pics when I'm done. Glad you like the 50mm Elmar 2.5/3.5. I was thinking about getting one of those too ! i always think Leica LTM s are beautifully made. I can't get enough of the knobs and dials... Johannes - I mounted my Summitar on an M8 and it works fine. I don't collapse the lens into the body though ! I have pic taken with the Summitar in the Digital forum if you want to look at it. I also picked up a Viso I with bellows which I'm gonna try totake some pics with it.
