David--

How are you attempting to "upload" to the Mac? Remember, the Mac's RAW file recognition is in the OS. Perhaps uploading as you are will require a later OS update.

Best way: Pull the card from the camera; put it into the computer or into a card reader; and drag the files to your hard disk. From there you can open them in any software that recognizes the RWL files, which means just about everything on the market AFAIK.

If that doesn't work, download the free Adobe DNG converter and use it to convert the files to DNG. Those everything can read.

(I have a Mac of course, and a D-Lux 4, which was the first camera to use the RWL format. Capture One 4.2 and later, Lightroom 2 and later, and Photoshop 4 and later all work fine.)

Take the card out of the camera and put it in a card reader. Copy the files to your hard drive user the Mac file management program. I think it is Finder.

Then you are going to need a current photo editing/management program like Photoshop CS5 or Light Room 3 with current updates to be able to view and edit the RAW files from the DL5.

If you have a new DL 5 you can download a copy of lightroom 3.2.

Once down loaded, you can read in your card and use the "Copy to DNG" (found at the top of the LR screen).

Save to a folder, after you import the images. You can than read the DNG files into your photoshop raw and process as normal.

I also received a DL-5 this week and use this procedure and it works great!

No need to copy them as DNG LR3 that you get with the DL5 does all the RAW processing all by itself and will send those RAW files to any version of PS or any newer, CS, version (not sure it it will work with older, before the CS, versions.

Gee guys__thanks !

Little sleep and maybe tomorrow it will all come clear ??? duh !

I cannot seem to find the software on Leica site that is suppose to come with this bloody beast. Photoshop/Lightroom it is not there on the Leica web site.

It is SO SMALL __my wife saw it and took it away __suppose I'll phone and order another for myself now. When they say `pocket size' they are not kidding. Watch pocket.

Tiny buttons, big hands.

David

BUT__this DL5 did not come with PS or LR. Attempted to find and download from Leica

but no go !

We are at our other home, and I do not have access to the older copies, nor new ones now.

This little camera has some rather confusing menus.

All suggestions will be appreciated !

Anybody have any ideas ?

Check the paperwork that came with the camera, or call Leica and ask them.

You don't get Lightroom from Leica, but from Adobe.

Go to Adobe's download site and get the 30-day trial version of Lightroom 3.2.

Contact Leica about what you need to turn in into your free copy. Once you download it, you can use it; and you have 30 days to get the authorization procedure straight.

Or if the camera's now your wife's, let her figure it out. :)

Once you down load Lightroom 3.2, the system will ask for your DL-5's serial number. after you enter it, along with your name and address, you will be issued a serial number for LR-3 and you will have a full working version.

enjoy

In LR just right click, on a Mac not sure if there is a right mouse button but there will be a keystroke + Mouse button equivalent, on a image and from the pop-up menu highlight (run the pointer over) "Edit In" and select PS CS5. That will send a copy to PS with all the RAW processes you have done to PS.

This is on a Windows PC so it may be slightly different on a Mac.

Also you can use export and select the file type as PSD or TFF. Then with PS open browse to the folder that you exported the image to and open the image.

Shootist, Howard,

Thank you for your suggestions. After a good night sleep it is as clear as mud.

I will let my wife figure it out, then copy her's !

NOTE: Yesterday I shot less then 20 pictures with a fully charged battery. At that point the battery had discharged 33%__?

Already contacted Leica both by email and phone. Not a pro as most of you,but a long time Leica user__pulling rank, threats if you will.

To all thank you for your comments,

David

I don't have the DL5 but I do have the Panasonic LX5 and at first the battery drained quite quickly but recently I am getting great battery life. I've taken numerous images over the last 3-4 days using flash a lot and haven't need to charge the battery. Now after saying that today I will need to use the camera and find out the battery is nearly dead. Murphy's Law.

Note that the camera is dead when you get it new. After inserting a charged battery the camera will charge it internal battery which will cause the removable battery to drain more quickly for the first few days. And it is said that Li-ion batteries gain charge as you use them, recharge them.

I downloaded LR 3.2 by going to the Leica website, logging on to the Members Area (you'll need to register if you haven't already set up a user name and password), going to the Download link, choosing Compact Camera and then D-Lux 5 from the drop down lists and, after inputting my D-Lux 5 serial number, downloading LR 3.2 from the list of available downloads. Leica then emailed me the serial number.

Just another way to acquire the 'bundled' software.

You mentioned that your D-Lux 5 is "shooting very bright pictures" (overexposed?). You may find that your metering mode is set to spot metering and is metering for a dark object in the centre of the screen or that there's exposure compensation dialled in.

Pete.

Farnz,

I logged on as I have done before __but after entering the new camera there was NO downloads for the new D Lux 5. In fact it did not list the new D Lux 5 as a choice !!

I'll check the metering,Thank you.

Do you have the address where you found that software ?

Did check and change the metering ! Have the manual BUT does not say much__Not going to print out that PDF. Sun is shining and we are out for a day of shooting with several cameras__Guess who got the D Lux 5 ? Ordering another this day.

I plead "compos non mentis "___ it happens to older types DAILY !

Best Regards,

David
