wudai_e Posted October 28, 2010 Share #1 Posted October 28, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, First time M user here, just got my M8 and a Voiglander 50mm F1.1. Looking for a 58mm sized IR cut filter cause the color cast are really bugging me in some situations. Any recommendations? I also found this on Amazon: Amazon.com: B+W 65-014690 58mm UV/IR Cut Filter #486: Camera & Photo Will this work? Thanks.
Advertisement Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 Hi wudai_e, Take a look here Which 58mm IR cut filter should I use for Nokton F1.1 50mm?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mbray Posted October 28, 2010 Share #2 Posted October 28, 2010 The B&W filters are fine. I've used them with Leica lenses with no suggestion of colour cast at all in a variety of lighting conditions. Obviously some extreme lighting conditions need tweaking at pre-printing stage but there is none of the purple cast on black fabrics that appear with no filter. I have also got a Leica filter of the same type and in general shooting, I cannot tell the difference. Martin
ho_co Posted October 28, 2010 Share #3 Posted October 28, 2010 Welcome to the forum! The B+W 486 you mention is a perfect choice.
RobertW Posted October 31, 2010 Share #4 Posted October 31, 2010 The usual players are Leica or B+W for the ircut filters. B+W make "odd" size filters that match the filter thread diameters of many CV lenses. Whereas Leica oddly enough only sell those that fit its own lenses B+W are usually much less expensive than Leica which is another bonus.
