Dear Leicaphiles,

I have read about the D-LUX 5 everywhere: on the forum but also on the magazines onlines.

The opinions on the warranty are very variable: someone says 1 year, someone 2 years someone 3 years.

Could anyone who knows please clarify?

When I bought the D-LUX 4 last year, Leica gave us 3 years warranty.

Best,

Corrado & Rina

I can confirm that in the UK the D-Lux 5 has a 2-year warranty.

Originally the D-Lux 4 also had a 2 year warranty, which was increased to 3 years after about 3 months IIRC. It stands to reason that Leica *might* do the same with the D-Lux 5's warranty.

Pete.

Pete--the US agency never to my knowledge publicized Germany's warranty extension on the D-Lux 4.

That is:

1) Yes, Germany announced the one-year warranty extension (to a total of three years).

2) That same announcement did not appear AFAIK on the US site.

3) I don't know how the question of warranty was handled in the US after the first two years.

Gee, Pete, I can't believe it's been so short a time that I've been using that little jewel!

I copied the warranty extension from the German site to present to the folks in Allendale if need be. ;)

Thanks, Pete. :o

Yep, that link is on the D-Lux 4 page. I had overlooked it. Whew! Saved by Leica Forum User Input. :)

Edit: Oops. Need purchase date to register. Sigh. That'll be some lengthy research.

Yes, it's two years... For some reason I thought it was 3...

However, mine is 3 :-)

I bought the B&H photo Sagemax insurance plan (and yes, I know 9 times out of 10 you won't need insurance).

I've had a few bad experiences with past cameras, so $111 was worth it for 3 years (covers EVERYTHING but theft)...

Yes, Wisrute, a 2-year warranty ex-factory.

With the D-Lux 4, a one-year warranty extension was later offered to people who had registered their cameras on the Leica website, but Leica hasn't done that yet for the D-Lux 5 so far as I'm aware, and may not feel the need to.

Nice little camera, no? :)

Howard,

Thanks for the clarification. Yes the LX-5 is a nice little camera. The AF is noticeably faster than its predecessor especially in macro AF. Noise at ISO 800 appears to be acceptable, IMHO, whereas the LX-3 is good up to ISO 400. And that's just from playing with it for a few moments only. ;-)

Oh, gee, Wisrute, I messed up.

I was thinking of D-Lux 5 when I wrote that, not LX5. Just not paying attention. :o

Just checked the USA Panasonic web site, and the LX5 has only a 1-year warranty. However, for an additional $50, one can buy a one-year warranty extension (CCP096189DSC2C - Customer Care Plans - Shop and Compare at Panasonic). And the Panasonic website is discounting the camera by $50, so it's (shall we say) 50-50.

That's an interesting distinction between the USA and the East. Could be that Oriental customers expect more?

No problem, Howard. I think the MSRP prices (both the LX-5 and D-Lux 5) in Thai Baht are slightly higher than in the States anyway. Maybe Panasonic's trying to offset that by providing another year of warranty.
